Louise Elisabeth Glück(1948-),who won both the 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature and the title of Poet Laureate of the United States,is one of the most important and influential contemporary American poets.As one of the representatives of the post-confessional school,she uniquely combines classic myths and characters with distinctive autobiographical content from a unique female perspective.This paper attempts to explore the poetic characteristics of the combination of female characters and classical myths in Glück’s poems from the perspective of feminism,and to explore the post-confessional characteristics reflected in Glück’s poems as well as the deep analysis of the living environment which women have to face today.In the end,it analyzes the significance and value of the poet’s influence on the contemporary poetry circle,and how does Glück reach an agreement with Chinese poetess both ideologically and formally,finally become one community.The thesis consists of introduction,main body and conclusion.The introduction includes the introduction of Glück’s life and works,the research status of Glück’s works at home and abroad,and the purpose and significance of this paper.The body is divided into three chapters.First of all,the chapter one discusses the formation and development of confessional poems,through it further illustrating how Glück took shape and developed into the post-confessional poetry under the influence of confessional poetry.And in the end the poet not only inherited the confessional culture.but also determined her own unique characteristics,and creatively invented a total different poets collection,called book-length poetic sequence.Then,the paper analyzes that,as a female poet,Glück integrated her own unique female feelings into her poetry collection,expressed the female theme,from female perspective narration and female subject to rewrite myth,and finally achieved the meaning of universalizing feminist feelings.The third chapter mainly analyzes and studies the significance and value of Glück’s poems.Mainly embodied in two aspects: to begin with,she gave voice to female characters in her poems,which further promoted the awakening of female consciousness.Secondly,her poetry provides a new direction of post-confessional development,and further affect the female poet in contemporary China,women’s self-appeal has become a whole consciousness.Based on the above analysis,this paper tries to draw the following conclusions: first,Glück’s poetry is a major development of the post-confessional poetry,which brings new form and content to the confessional poetry,and creates the individual "book-length poetic sequence" poetry collection form.Second,by combining the narration of ancient Greek mythology in her poems,she gives the voice to the female characters and places them in the contemporary social background,which not only reflects the poet’s own experience,but also reflects the life of women in the whole society.Third,with the help of poetry,Glück further encouraged all women to be more active and brave in self-development and self-realization and realize their ideals.
