A Report On The E-C Translation Of ENDING HUNGER: How To Feed The World Without Destroying It（excerpts） ——Translation Of Non-Finite Verbs Serving As Adverbials In The Informative Text

This report is based on the E-C translation of ENDING HUNGER: How to Feed the World Without Destroying It,an informative science text written by Anthony Warner and published in 2020,chosen from the internet,telling about how to end hunger without destroying the balance of the world we live.The first several chapters of the source text contain lots of non-finite verbs with a lot of technical terms and some remarkable people introductions.Since non-predicate verbs often have different components in sentences,these subtle differences require disparate translation methods and appropriate Chinese expressions,to achieve the purpose of conveying the same meaning as the source language.As a result,how to translate these expressions with clearness and coherence and at the same time accurately pass on the main idea of the original author is mainly important.The translation of non-finite verbs as adverbials was decided as my research direction.Three principles of the Skopos Theory by Hans J·Vermeer,as for theoretical framework,were chosen as guidance for this report.This report analyzed the difficulties in the translation caused by non-finite verbs by using examples from three translation methods: addition,transformation,and omission,and trying to conclude the pattern of figures of non-finite verbs as adverbials of translation.The findings of the report are expected to bring some help to others who are also studying in this translation field.
