| This report is based on the E-C translation of Moon Olympic Peninsula,a tourist text written by Jeff Burlingame.The text mainly introduces the Olympic Peninsula and nearby tourist sites with plans and tips to provide the best experience for visitors during the journey.The tourist text focuses on the accuracy and attraction of the information.Numerous parentheses in the text are used in this text.The translator classifies them into three types in terms of constituents in sentences: past participle phrase as a parenthesis,prepositional phrase as a parenthesis and subordinate clause as a parenthesis.The complicated types and frequent occurrence of parentheses brings difficulties in the translation.On the basis of the text analysis and under the guidance of Communicative Translation theory,the translator adopts four methods in the translation of parentheses to improve the fluency and readability of the translation including pre-positioning,addition,inclusion,and linear translation.Lastly,this report is expected to provide references to the translation of parentheses in tourist texts. |
