Social anxiety refers to the emotional reactions and avoidance behaviors of individuals who have strong anxiety, nervousness or fear for one or more interpersonal situations. As a special group,left-behind children in rural areas tend to have a higher level of social anxiety, which will seriously hinder their physical and mental health development. Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen the attention to the social anxiety of left-behind children in rural areas. This study consists of two parts. In the first study,1705 junior middle school students from 6 middle schools in Anhui province and Fujian Province were investigated by using the Adolescent Social Anxiety Scale,Adolescent Loneliness Questionnaire and Ruminant Thinking Questionnaire.Among them,643 were left-behind children in rural areas and 1062 were ordinary children.By comparing the differences in social anxiety, loneliness and rumination between rural left-behind children and ordinary children as well as the differences in demographic variables, this paper aims to understand the social anxiety, loneliness and rumination of rural left-behind children and explore the relationship among them.In the second study,38 rural left-behind children were selected as the research objects, and rumination group counseling was conducted for 8 weeks. Finally, the effect of rumination group counseling on reducing social anxiety level of rural left-behind children was evaluated and verified through the actual situation. The results are as follows:1.Left-behind children in rural areas have significantly higher scores in social anxiety, loneliness, rumination and other dimensions than ordinary children.2.There are significant differences in gender and grade between left-behind children in rural areas and general children in social anxiety, but no significant differences in single parent situation and region.3.The loneliness of left-behind children in rural areas is significantly different from that of ordinary children in grade and region, but there is no significant difference in gender, single parent situation and region.4.There are significant differences in rumination between left-behind children in rural areas and general children in gender, grade and region, but no significant differences in single parent situation and region.5.There are significant positive correlations between social anxiety, loneliness and rumination. Both loneliness and rumination positively predicted social anxiety, and rumination partially mediated the relationship between loneliness and social anxiety.6.Group psychological counseling can significantly reduce rumination level of rural left-behind children, and then reduce the degree of social anxiety of rural left-behind children.
