| In recent years, children with autism spectrum disorder have gained attention from society and relevant policies have been issued. However, the number of children with autism is still increasing and the calls for providing them with an appropriate education continue to mount.Foreign research on autism predates that of China. Therefore, there is an urgent need to introduce educational books about autistic children into China. This thesis is an English-Chinese translation report. The source text of this translation project comes from chapter 6,Stages Two and Three –the formal schooling years(mainstreaming),in the book How Parents Deal with the Education of Their Child on the Autism Spectrum. This part mainly introduces six autistic children’s difficulties in mainstream education and their parents’ solutions. With Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory as a guidance, this translation report solves the difficulties from three levels—— lexical, syntactic and discoursal level. In terms of lexical level, techniques like standardization of terminology, conversion and combination have been appropriately used to deal with the vocabulary. At the syntax level, conversion, preposition, segregation have been used to deal with the translation of passive sentences and attributive clauses. Finally, for the whole text, repetition, addition and shift were used to make the target language coherent. All these aim to provide readers with the target text that conforms to their language habits and thus achieves a good communicative effect.Through the translation of this source text,it can introduce the educational experience of Western parents and provide some references for parents with autistic children in China. And at the same time, the translator hopes that more people will pay attention to autism and special education. |
