| When painters in the late Renaissance no longer fully emphasized the rational and noble spirit and normative beauty, showing exaggerated and alternative forms, but did not fade some mysterious and pious religious sense, stylist painting seemed to stand on the edge of classical art.In the complex era environment of the 16 th century,Greco’s art is also complex. In the 16 th century,Spanish Society was turbulent, and the declining aristocrats had a spiritual crisis. The decadent temperament in Greco’s paintings clearly revealed the atmosphere of changes in the times. At the same time, the characters and expressions in his paintings also reflected the struggle and cry of the painter’s soul. Its picture expression is the synthesis of the above-mentioned elements. Its anti rational characteristics and emphasis on personal expression coincide with the fundamental characteristics of modernist painting, which is the focus of this paper. This paper studies the reasons why Greco’s paintings were highly controversial in his time, and explores why his works had different values in the eyes of various groups at that time. The fundamental reason is that although his works were religious themes, they were not "conservative" in the eyes of many audiences in his time, and they felt skeptical and confused about them,so they could not be accepted. His paintings have a rare characteristic in his time, that is,the expression of individual spirit is very advanced.Unfortunately, the values and aesthetics of his time have not been completely transformed.More than 200 years after Greco’s death,Cezanne,Picasso and other artists rediscovered him and finally discovered the modernity of Greco’s paintings.Greco’s stylism greatly reveals the expression of individual spirit, which is of great significance.Modern painting shows people’s subjectivity and emphasizes the form of pictures. The typical characteristic of Greco’s paintings, that is,the form generated by the spirit of the individual,is recognized by modern painters.Today’s audience can see the academic significance and spiritual value of Greco’s paintings from a relatively open perspective. In the 16 th century,Greco denied the simple expression of the objective world through his personal temperament, and then determined the spiritual expression and irrational factors. He is not only a magical and creative painter, but also regarded as an artistic enlightener. |
