| Buddhism spread from west to east and first came to the Western Regions.Qiuci is located in the important town of the north and south of the Silk Road,and has become one of the Buddhist centers around the Western Regions.The Cave 110 of the Kizil Grottoes in Qiuci has more than 60 murals of Buddha’s life stories.The continuous,complete and a whole series of Buddhist stories are drawn on the four walls of the main chamber of Cave 110.It is the cave with the most Buddha’s life stories in Kizil Grottoes.The Gandhara area is one of the earliest birthplace of Buddha statues.Gandhara and Qiuci all belong to the Northwest India-Western Regions cultural circle.Some of the sectarian ideas that were popular in both Gandhara and Qiuci also have similarities.On the basis of referring to Buddhist scriptures and Brahmi inscriptions,this paper identifies the mural of Buddha’s life story of Cave 110 in Kizil,and confirms the themes of 52 murals.Second,this paper compared 24 classic images of Buddha’s life story in Gandhara and Qiuci.From the perspectives of composition,character image and movement,the order of reading,and the source of Buddhist scriptures.It reveals that the murals of Buddha’s life story in Qiuci have obvious localization characteristics.It is a Buddhist art with distinctive national characteristics formed by the ancient Qiuci people on the basis of inheriting the excellent native culture of Qiuci and learning from foreign cultures. |
