| Looking at the development of Chinese and western translation, translation theory has developed rapidly and become more and more prosperous since 20thcentury.At first, scholars studied translation using linguistics. In the 1960s and 1970s,Eugene Nida came up with the Equivalence Theory. After its coming, scholars gradually jumped out of linguistics to study translation.Meanwhile, the vigorous development of translation theory also calls for translation.Against this background, the German functionalists put forward the Skopos Theory.Skopos Theory can be applied to different fields, such as literary translation, scientific translation, medical translation and so on.Chinese scholar Wang Dongfeng is the first to put forward the concept of cultural default. He believes that cultural default refers to both parties or authors and readers under the same cultural background, and the common cultural background can be omitted in communication. This report discusses the translation strategies of cultural default in An Ordinary Life. This novel was published in 2021,and was first translated by the translator. It is also often accompanied by stream of consciousness, which has caused many obstacles to the translation of this novel. At the same time, many cultural defaults exist in the novel, which is the second major difficulty. As for the main part, using the Skopos theory, the translator carefully selects the cases about cultural default in An Ordinary Life, deeply explores the translation strategies, and finally chooses to use the methods of explaining, remodeling, supplement, conversion and domestication.Through this translation practice, the translator understands that Skopos Theory emphasizes the great significance of the participants in translation, especially the translator who initiates the whole translation, and let the translator become the subject.Secondly, the translator feels the significance of literary translation.Only when a country has the feelings of being a great country and actively introduces excellent literary works can it stimulate literary vitality and promote cultural communication. At the same time, the translator also verifies the feasibility of Skopos Theory in literary translation, and hopes to contribute to the introduction of foreign literature into China. |
