An Aesthetic Research Of Hollywood Monster Films

As a product of human imagination in childhood,"monster" has always participated in and reflected the historical development process of human culture since its birth.The motif of "monster" is also derived from the continuous development of mythology,epic,literature,painting,sculpture and other art categories,resulting in a variety of classic monster images that bring deep fear to human beings.In modern society,film art was born.As a comprehensive art closely combined with science and art,film art "reappears" the monsters in people’s minds on the screen with its directness and intuitiveness.As a type of Hollywood movies,monster movie has been relatively mature after decades of development.It combines the characteristics of disaster film and science fiction film with the elements of horror film.It takes monster as the main object of expression and has unique aesthetic characteristics.This paper takes Hollywood monster movies as the research object,analyzes typical works such as Hollywood Version godzilla series,King Kong series and Pacific Rim series,based on aesthetic research,analyzes Hollywood monster movies from multiple angles and in depth.The introduction part of this paper analyzes the development of Hollywood monster movies as a whole.Firstly,it defines the research scope of this paper.Secondly,it combs the genre of monster movies from the perspective of historical theory,so as to better understand and grasp this genre.The first chapter of this paper aims to explore the aesthetic characteristics of Hollywood monster movies,from the three aspects of the obsession with giant and noble,the presentation of violence aesthetics and the expression of ugliness,combined with the audience’s aesthetic psychology,to explore the fundamental reasons for the attraction of Hollywood monster movies.The second chapter of this paper mainly analyzes the aesthetic elements in Hollywood monster movies,and interprets them from the inside out and from the outside to the inside from the three aspects of monster,hero and apocalyptic scenes,so as to explore the allegorical images in monster movies.The third chapter of this paper aims to discuss the aesthetic expression of Hollywood monster movies,and makes an in-depth and simple analysis from three aspects: the image representation of Hollywood monster movies,the aesthetic presentation of Cthulhu style and the aesthetic reference of theme expression.
