The Study Of Jianguo Pictorial

During the period of the National Anti-Japanese War,the Jianguo Pictorial was not only the first anti-Japanese war propaganda pictorial produced in Chengdu,but also the first to use the name of"Jianguo",meaning nation building.It closely followed the national policy of "Anti-Japanese War and National Construction".The pictorial with the spirit of the times is the testimony of "art to save the nation".In order to make this dissertation clear,the author divides the research from three perspectives:research on the sponsor and author of Jianguo Pictorial as the first chapter;taking the image works of the pictorial as clues,research on the subject,expression and artistic characteristics of the image works as the second chapter;from the perspective of the overall characteristics of running a journal,reaserch on the arrangement structure of the pictorial,the text works and the influence of the pictorial as communication medium as the third chapter.First of all,Jianguo Pictorial is sponsored by the Anti-Japanese War Art Society,Sichuan Caricature Society and the Chengdu Branch of the All-China Woodcut Association Against the Enemy.Members of the two societies are not only responsible for the editing and distribution of the journal,but also the main authors of the pictorial,providing a stable and high-quality manuscript source for Jianguo Pictorial.Under the circumstance that the newspapers were restricted and edited by the Nationalist Government,Sichuan Caricature Society turned to Jianguo Pictorial as the sponsor,and intervened in the sponsorship through providing works.As the main body of the creation of Jianguo Pictorial,most of the members of Sichuan Caricature Society are from a professional class and are in the mature stage of their personal artistic style.They have submitted a large number of high-quality works,ensuring the superb artistic level and rich content presentation of the pictorial.The Chengdu Branch of the All-China Woodcut Association against the Enemy was another sponsor of the Jianguo Pictorial.The participation of its members brought woodcut ballad paintings and comic strips to the pictorial,enriching the pictorial’s expression.Secondly,Jianguo Pictorial made an important contribution to the dissemination of the idea of"war of resistance and building the country" through the most militant and revolutionary cartoons and woodcuts,with the broad masses of the people as its audience.In terms of image content,the focus will be on the following five aspects:Chinese soldiers and civilians fought bravely on the front lines,the life of the people in the rear,the mentality of the wartime and the production and construction of workers and peasants,the problems of domestic traitors and corruption,the evil deeds of burning,killing and looting of Japanese invaders as well as overlooking the development of world wars.In terms of expression,the comic strips with "narrative" and "plot" are easy to understand and directly hit people’s hearts.The graphic narrative that combines short and concise words and images,such as the characteristic folk songs of Sichuan and Chongqing,poetic verses,etc.,increases the readability and interest of the image.In terms of artistic characteristics,the works of Jianguo Pictorial achieve an organic unity in realism,popularization and popularization.Finally,reseach on the publication features of Jianguo Pictorial.In terms of arrangement structure,through the unique poster-style cover design,sticking to the editorial policy of "The AntiJapanese War must be won,and the nation must be established",it has continuously explored the column layout with images as the main and text as the supplement to meet the needs of the AntiJapanese War propaganda for the public.In the selection of text works,it not only pays attention to the dynamics of the art world,publicizes the literary and artistic theory of the Anti-Japanese War,but also promotes the spirit of resistance to construction with call-to-action texts and literary and artistic works with rich forms.As a communication medium,it consciously chooses the content of the publication to continuously target the wider Chinese people.At the same time,as a propaganda and educational tool,it has achieved effective propaganda no matter in the field of art,propaganda and education,or the construction of people’s ideology during the Anti-Japanese War.
