——Ecological Female Writing In Beloved | | Posted on:2022-11-02 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:X Wu | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2505306779483844 | Subject:Chinese Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | In 1931,Toni Morrison(1931-2019)was born in Ohio,as the first black female writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.Alice Walker,Maya Angelou and she are regarded as the forces that can’t be ignored for the rapid development of African-American black female literature after 1960 s.By telling the fate of three generations of black women represented by Baby Suggs,Sethe and Denver and their relationship with nature.Beloved reveals Morrison’s humanistic care for ecofeminism,her worry about the concept of anthropocentric dualism,and her exploration of the idea of diversification and harmonious coexistence in the new era.Based on the ecofeminist theory of Val Plumwood and Morrison’s Beloved,this article explores ecofeminist writing in Beloved from four aspects: women’s relationship with nature,the victims under the anthropocentric dualism,trauma and growth,and the establishment of harmonious ecological relations.The introduction introduces Toni Morrison,her works and theoretical background.Chapter two describes the relationship between women and nature in Beloved from the perspectives of trees and rivers,and reveals the identity of nature(trees and rivers)as witnesses and helpers relative to black women.The third chapter describes the group of black women who are imprisoned in both gender and race,that is,under the oppression and discrimination of the white cultural hegemony and the patriarchal society,black women exist in the "the other" space,lack individual identity consciousness,and thus become victims of the anthropocentric dualism in body and mind.The fourth chapter starts from the discussion of the physical and mental trauma suffered by black women in the state of lack of identity awareness,and then analyzes that through the comfort and help from nature,black women have gradually strengthened their positions and beliefs to build their own identity and have independent spirit,and finally they have realized the growth process from the traumatized "the other" to the strong and brave "me".The fifth chapter discusses the establishment of harmonious ecological relationship between man and nature from the perspective of gender relations and group relations.This paper holds that the harmonious relationship between human beings and nature can not be separated from harmonious gender relations and inclusive group relations.The conclusion summarizes Morrison’s ecofeminism consciousness and the embodiment in Beloved,and further proves that reinterpreting Beloved with the theory of ecological feminism can provide a new perspective for Morrison’s research. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Tony Morrison, Beloved, ecofeminism, anthropocentric dualism, growth | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
