V.S.Naipaul(Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul 1932-2018)is regarded as a representative writer of postcolonial literature.Throughout his long creative career,he has always paid attention to himself, and his works are strongly autobiographical.Naipaul’s works focus on personal growth experience and diaspora experience.Although the novel forms are presented in a diversified form, there is always a strong autobiographical awareness behind it.This thesis will take Naipaul’s autobiographical writing as an entry point, through the analysis of "Miguel Street","Mr.Bisworth’s House","Imitator","Discovery Center","The Mystery of Arrival","Road to the World" and other autobiographical novels are carefully read to analyze the origin, appearance, characteristics and significance of Naipaul’s autobiographical writing. The article is mainly composed of five parts. The introduction part introduces Naipaul’s life and creation;initially defines the genre of Naipaul’s works;combs the status quo of Naipaul research at home and abroad. The text first analyzes the reasons for Naipaul’s insistence on autobiographical writing from the perspective of cultural identity.Starting from the autobiographical craze of 20 th century literature,it analyzes why the postcolonial writers are so enthusiastic about autobiography, and then finds out the commonalities between Naipaul and other postcolonial writers who choose autobiographical writing. The second part starts from the text, sorting out the three aspects of family history, diaspora experience and writing process that Naipaul pays most attention to in his autobiographical writing. The three are intertwined to form Naipaul and his people. The third part explores Naipaul’s practice in the form of writing containing autobiographical materials. The fusion and repetition of novels and autobiography have become an important feature of his autobiographical writing style. The fourth part deeply researches the meaning and value behind Naipaul’s autobiographical writing.Through autobiographical writing,Naipaul tries to establish a continuous and complete identity for himself, obtain self-liberation,and reconstruct the history of the individual and the nation in the process.Generally speaking, autobiographical writing is not only an important feature of Naipaul’s creation, but also an important way to understand Naipaul’s creative thought, content and genre form.Naipaul has become a star in the autobiographical writing practice of post-colonial writers with his unique autobiographical writing style.
