| Listening is one of the important ways of language learning,and is the basis for obtaining information.The “English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2011)” emphasizes that use of listening strategies to obtain the relevant information.Tolerance of ambiguity refers to the attitude of individuals in the face of ambiguous situations,and a series of processing methods.It has attracted wide attention from scholars.Therefore,this study explores the correlation between the English listening tolerance of ambiguity and the use of listening strategies in rural junior high school students.Based on the Affective Filter Hypothesis and Schema Theory,using questionnaire survey and interview inquires,surveying 264 students from a junior high school in Qingdao,Shandong Province.This study explored English listening tolerance of ambiguity and listening strategies of rural junior high school students,aiming to solve the following problems.(1)What is the general status of English listening tolerance of ambiguity in rural junior high school students?(2)What is the general status of the use of English listening strategies in rural junior high school students? Are there differences in the use of listening strategies between students with high and low tolerance of ambiguity levels?(3)Is there a correlation between the English listening tolerance of ambiguity and the use of listening strategies in rural junior high school students? What is the correlation?Based on the research,the findings were as follows:(1)The overall English listening tolerance of ambiguity in rural junior high school students were at the middle level.(2)The average value of the English listening strategies was at a medium level and was sometimes used.Students with high English listening tolerance of ambiguity levels used listening strategies overall and in dimensions higher than students with low English listening tolerance of ambiguity levels.(3)There was a significantly moderate positive correlation between English listening tolerance of ambiguity levels and listening strategies,there was no correlation between social-affective strategies and insoluble situations,and there was a positive correlation between all dimensions of English listening tolerance of ambiguity and listening strategies.The English listening tolerance of ambiguity had the highest correlation with the meta-cognitive strategies,and the overall listening strategies had the highest correlation with the novel situations,with a moderate correlation.Based on the research,it helps researchers and educators to master this stage of students’ psychological characteristics and English listening situation,and give some suggestions,it hopes that teachers and students can pay attention to listening tolerance of ambiguity and listening strategies. |
