A Report On The E-C Translation Of Jane In Love（Chapters 1-7）

This is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text is selected from the first seven chapters of Jane in Love,which has no Chinese version at present,written by the Australian writer Rachel Givney.The novel describes a story about an old spinster struggling for love,which is adapted from the life experience of a real famous English writer,Jane Austen.The translator divides this report into five parts,mainly focusing on difficulties at lexical and syntactic levels and analyzing corresponding translation methods.The report analyzes lexical and syntactic problems encountered by the translator in the process of translation.Lexical difficulties include the translation of proper nouns and the conversion of parts of speech,while syntactic difficulties cover the translation of English idioms,complex sentences and passive sentences.As for the problems mentioned above,the translator adapts different translation methods,which include: extending the basic meaning of proper nouns under cultural background,converting parts of speech,translating cultural idioms in the source text with corresponding translation,restructuring complex sentences to figure out sentence logic,changing passive sentences in English to active voice in Chinese.In the process of writing this translation practice report,the translator believes that different translation methods can improve translation quality in different aspects.This report finally reflects on the translator’s practice experience,so as to provide some reference for the future translation of similar texts.
