Somerset Maugham is a widely influential British writer who has traveled to many countries in his life,and his travel experiences have become the materials for his writing.His works have backgrounds all over the world.The Moon and Sixpence is no exception,as the hero travels from London to Paris,to Marseilles,and finally to Tahiti in pursuit of his dreams.The author and the protagonist’s experiences overlap.The Moon and Sixpence was written after Maugham’s trip to Tahiti.The Moon and Sixpence received a warm response when it was first published.It was translated into many languages and is still regarded as a classic today,not only because of its profound connotation,but also because of the accurate and vivid translation by translators around the world.The Moon and Sixpence is a must-read book for teenagers.It is of practical value to study its translation language and analyze the selection of translation in current textbooks.This study takes the source text of The Moon and Sixpence and the translations of Fu Weici and Li Jihong as the research objects,uses the method of corpus,and uses Word Smith 8.0,Ant Conc3.5.7 and other corpus tools to explore the language of the translations of Fu Weici and Li Jihong from the perspective of specific language features,and analyzes the causes of language differences in the translations.And then get targeted inspirations.Firstly,the corpus construction of this study is introduced.Firstly,a parallel corpus of The Moon and Sixpence is constructed according to the criteria of determining the target corpus and reference corpus,and then the analysis tools used in the research are introduced in detail.Then the corpus processing is introduced,which includes two parts: corpus cleaning and corpus processing.Secondly,this thesis analyzes the lexical and sentence features of the source text and the two translations of The Moon and Sixpence with the help of corpus tools.The lexical feature level includes standardized type-token ratio,word density,word frequency feature and subject word.Sentence feature level includes average sentence length,average sentence paragraph length and sentence type.Thirdly,the thesis analyzes the linguistic features and causes of the two translations.This thesis summarizes the language characteristics of the two versions,and then analyzes the reasons for the formation of the language characteristics of the two versions from the external and internal aspects,mainly including the translator’s translation purpose,life experience and educational background.Finally,the enlightenment of translation language research is illustrated.The recommendation of extra-curricular reading should pay attention to the audience,the selection and adaptation of in-class translation and the cultivation of students’ language appreciation ability.Taking The Old Man and the Sea as an example,this thesis discusses the selection and adaptation of the translation in class,and concludes that the translation is more suitable for senior high school students to learn,and the text selection is more reasonable.Then through the comparison of selected sections of the textbook and the comparison of different versions to cultivate the students’ language appreciation ability and conduct academic reading training for students.
