Study On The Expression And Aesthetic Value Of Chinese Painting With Peony As Theme

There are numerous flower and bird paintings with peony as the theme,and their artistic styles and expressions are also very rich.Peony painting is rooted in the fertile soil of traditional Chinese culture.After long years of development,prosperity and innovation,and embodies the extensive and profound civilization and wisdom of the Chinese nation for thousands of years,it eventually becomes the most representative theme of Chinese painting.At the same time,the painting of peony theme is also influenced by the philosophical thoughts of China’s traditional Confucianism and Taoism in the process of development,and reflects the spiritual culture,aesthetic taste and artistic pursuit,which provides a research direction for contemporary painting of peony theme.The peony painting was originally attached to the background of figure painting,and its expression was mostly ancient fairy tales,such as The Classic of Mountains and Seas and The Ode to the Goddess of Luo,etc.,which resulted in a very limited form of expression of peony painting.However,with the change of history,the rapid development of culture and art,especially after the Tang Dynasty,peony appreciation rose and became an essential part of people’s spiritual life at that time.The poem "only peony is the true color of the country,and the blooming season moves the capital" also attracted numerous flower and bird painters with their unique perspective of observation and expression to the peony,and created various forms of Chinese painting works with peony as the theme.Since then,the peony paintings have gained great popularity and attracted great attention from people,and they have been re-examined from the aesthetic perspective of painting,transforming it from an ornament behind the curtain to a gorgeous protagonist on the stage.This thesis studies the performance and aesthetic value of Chinese painting with peony as the theme,and combs the development vein of painting with peony as the axis of history.Its artistic expression can be divided into two categories: realistic and freehand brushwork.They form their unique painting style and aesthetic characteristics with their different expression techniques,which sublimate the artistic appeal and vivid performance effect of the picture,thus forming the painting style characteristics pursued by different creation subjects.As a kind of formal beauty with "meaning",peony painting has independent aesthetic value.Based on this,this paper discusses its aesthetic value from two aspects of form and implication respectively.Based on the traditional national philosophy,it inherits the aesthetics of traditional peony painting,and constantly explores new development space under the modern environment,so as to further promote the aesthetic innovation of peony painting style.
