| This is an E-C translation practice report.The author of this book is Ernest Henry Short,a British writer who completed A History of Sculpture in 1907.This book mainly introduces the development history of sculpture from Greek sculpture,ancient Greece,Roman sculpture,Italian Renaissance sculpture and modern sculpture.The translator selects Chapter Twelve,Thirteen and Fourteen of the book to translate.It includes three parts: pre-translation preparation,case analysis and the post-translation summary.First of all,in order to convey the original information accurately,the translator looks up the relevant information and selects The Palace of Versailles and Neo classicalism and Romanticism as parallel texts.Secondly,the translator shows the difficulties from two levels and puts forward the translation methods of examples.At the lexical level,for proper nouns,the translator uses annotation.For art terms,the translator chooses meanings according to the context and subject category.At the syntactic level,for the passive sentences,the translator uses the methods of translating passive sentences into Chinese active sentences and Chinese passive sentences.For the complex sentences,the shifts of voices,sequential translation,division and inversion are used.Finally,the translator summarizes the experience and the limitation in the practice.Through translation practice,translator’s E-C translation ability has been trained.Besides,the translation of A History of Sculpture helps readers learn more about Western sculpture. |
