| Adorno is an outstanding representative of German mass culture critical theory. His film aesthetic thought is based on the critical theory of cultural industry, takes Hollywood films and the German new film movement as the background, and deeply discusses the film media and its artistic characteristics as the core field of cultural industry from a broad theoretical perspective. This paper systematically and deeply combs and studies Adorno’s film aesthetics.Firstly,it traces the origin of Adorno’s film aesthetics.First, the historical context of Adorno’s film aesthetics, including the prosperity of American cultural industry and the development of new German film movement; The second is the theoretical origin of Adorno’s film aesthetics, that is,the influence of Hegel’s identity philosophy,Marx’s commodity fetishism theory,Lukacs’ s Materialization Theory and Freud’s psychoanalysis theory on Adorno’s film aesthetics.Secondly,it analyzes the phased connotation of Adorno’s film aesthetics in the early and late stages. In the early stage, taking the cultural industry as the critical basis, the film was placed under the background of the cultural industry. It mainly criticized the mechanical reproduction nature, commercialization trend and ideology of the film, and believed that the film was just a tool for inculcating consciousness and cultural manipulation. However, after experiencing “the Adorno-Benjamin debate”,exile in the United States and the new German film movement,Adorno had a new understanding of the film as a medium. The later theory mainly discusses the possibility of film technology, artistic self-discipline and public subjectivity. He even thinks that film may be the antidote contained in the cultural industry itself. Finally,it explores the theoretical and practical significance of Adorno’s film aesthetics,in order to provide new resources and paths for the research and development of contemporary films. Therefore,Adorno’s unique and rich film aesthetics is not only an important theoretical achievement of film aesthetics, but also makes the theory of cultural industry full of tension, which still has irreplaceable ideological value and theoretical charm. |
