The Influence Of Pitch On Moral Decision

As the new era is affected by the process of globalization,epidemic and other aspects,the society on which we live has become more diverse and complex.The problem of morality,which has attracted much attention since ancient times,has attracted more attention in the new era.How can we better cultivate people’s moral cognition and strengthen people’s ability of moral judgment,At present,the research on morality mainly focuses on the metaphor of moral concept and whether the metaphor can further affect moral judgment.The role of music in promoting human society cannot be ignored.Music has always been a powerful tool to promote exchanges between people and promote social harmony.Since the Spring and Autumn period,Confucianism has believed that music is a tool of moral education.Now the country is also vigorously promoting music education.Music education has many advantages and can cultivate children’s aesthetic ability,It can promote the development of children’s multiple intelligence and executive function,and its promoting effect on prosocial behavior has been confirmed by many researchers.Existing moral studies have proved that the moral concept has the metaphor of up and down position in space,and some music studies have proved that the pitch direction can activate the up and down action semantics.Then,combined with the existing research,the question is raised: will the pitch direction（up and down）in music activate the representation of moral vocabulary semantics（moral and immoral）? Can this metaphorical connection further affect moral judgment like other metaphorical connections? Can it further affect people’s moral behavior?In order to solve the above problems,this study includes three experiments.Experiment 1 used 2（pitch direction: up,down）× 2（vocabulary type: moral concept word,immoral concept word）× 2（subject type: music experience,no music experience）three factor mixed design to explore whether there is a metaphorical connection between pitch direction and moral concept vocabulary,and whether this metaphorical connection is affected by music experience.The results show that there is a metaphorical connection between pitch up and moral words,pitch down and immoral words,and this connection is affected by music experience.Compared with the non music group,the music group has higher accuracy and shorter response time.Experiment 2 used 2（pitch direction of music material: up,down）× 3（story type:moral story,immoral story,moral dilemma story）× 2（subject type: with music experience,without music experience）to explore whether the metaphorical connection between pitch direction and moral concept vocabulary exists at the level of moral judgment and whether pitch direction will further affect moral judgment.The results show that this metaphorical connection still exists in moral judgment,and the influence of pitch direction is more obvious for non music group.Experiment 3 also used 2（pitch direction of music material: up,down）× 3（story type: moral story,immoral story,moral dilemma story）× 2（subject type: music experience,no music experience）to explore whether the pitch direction can affect moral behavior.The results show that the moral behavior of non music group and music group will be affected by the pitch direction,and this effect is more obvious when the pitch direction is downward.
