This paper introduces the development of Computed Tomography(CT)in Timber. With the continuous development of technology, more and more wooden cultural heritage has been analyzed by using computed tomography(CT)and dendrochronology. As a non-destructive and non-invasive technology,CT can scan samples from multiple angles without sampling.Conventional methods may damage objects,so a lot of cultural heritages are studied by CT.In this article,by using the reconstructed image of CT scan to measure the tree ring width, and compare it with the traditional method,to study the consistency of the results of two different methods for the sample 4N of the larch from the St.John the Baptist Church in Borno in Italy. While creating a sequence of tree-ring width measurement, analyzing the wood defects existing in the sample 4N through the reconstructed image helps to verify whether the wood defects has a certain impact on the comparison results of the two methods.Since the author Froeydis Roenneberg created a tree ring width sequence for sample 7N,this thesis will focuse on analyzing the wood defects in sample 4N,such as knots and resin pockets,in addition to creating a tree ring width sequence for sample 4N in order to further verify the experimental results of traditional methods and CT scan.Regarding wood defects inside wooden objects, many previous researchers have used CT scans to study internal structure defects in many different fields.Due to the possible wood defects inside the timber,it will have a impact on mechanical properties and affect the accuracy of the results of the tree ring width measurement.
