As a category under the control of verbs,in-depth research on reciprocal verbs is helpful to deepen our understanding of verbs. In today’s academic circles, research on reciprocal verbs tends to focus on monolingual descriptions. There are few articles comparing and researching reciprocal verbs in Chinese and English. There is a lack of systematic classification, explanation and A survey of commonality across languages.Through the screening of "Modern Chinese Dictionary(Seventh Edition)",the article counted 376 Chinese reciprocal verbs;through the screening of dictionaries such as "Oxford Advanced English-Chinese Dictionary",180 English reciprocal verbs were counted.According to these verbs,a Chinese-English reciprocal verb comparison table is organized. The article uses Chinese as the main research subject and English as a reference, and collects corpora from CCL,BNC and daily language. The paper mainly uses the method of morpheme analysis, comparative analysis, combination of description and interpretation, and combination of quantitative and qualitative research. It combines theories of "semantic field" and "valence theory" from semantics and syntax. The Chinese and English reciprocal verbs are defined and classified at two levels. On the other hand, the syntactic form of reciprocal verbs Chinese and English reciprocal verbs are summarized from the syntactic level.Different syntactic forms that co-occur with reciprocal verbs in the syntactic form are further explored. It is found that Chinese reciprocal verbs often co-occur with mutual adverbs such as "mutual, mutual" and collaborative adverbs such as "common, together",while reciprocal verbs in English often co-occur with prepositions.Subsequently, the research combined with cognitive linguistic theories such as frame semantics to study the type of "meet" reciprocal verbs, and found that Chinese reciprocal verbs are often intransitive, mostly used to simply express the meaning of symmetry, which is more in line with the prototype of reciprocal verbs. The two languages have a tendency to co-wording in terms of symmetry and transitivity, space and social / psychological aspects. The research aims to enrich the research results of modern Chinese-English reciprocal verbs. If the research results can be used in English teaching,it is alsoconvenient for students to better understand Chinese-English reciprocal verbs and their similarities and differences. In addition, this research is also conducive to improving the accuracy and rationality of bilingual translation, and has practical significance for the development of artificial intelligence such as bilingual information processing.
