Datong Temple is the earliest known Buddhist temple in Baekje. It was established during the Xiongjin Metropolitan Period.Scholars have speculated that it is located in Banjo-dong,Gongju,Korea.Datong Temple is an important example of Baekje’s acceptance of the culture of the Southern Dynasties.Studying Baekje Datong Temple can enrich the understanding of early Buddhist temple culture in Korea, and also better understand the history of political and cultural exchanges between the regimes of the North and South Dynasties and the Korean Peninsula. The main reasons for the construction of the Datong Temple by the Baekje Saint King are:first, the emperor emulates Emperor Liang Wu’s policy of governing the country through Buddhism, achieves the purpose of governing the country through Buddhism, and seeks political asylum for himself. The second is to obey the order of the father and maintain the domestic stability and prosperity during the reign of the father, and then strive to build Baekje as a powerful country on the Korean peninsula. On the other hand,it also resists pressure from Goguryeo and occupies a favorable position in foreign wars. From a micro perspective,it seems that there is also the intention to pursue happiness for the father and queen.Based on archaeological data, this article compares the relics unearthed from the Datong Temple and the Southern Dynasties, and finds that the relics unearthed from the Baoji Datong Temple have both the characteristics of the Southern Dynasty and Baekje. For example, some of the basic styles of tile dynasties are derived from tile dynasties in the Southern Dynasty. The tile making technology has many similarities with those in the Southern Dynasty. The unearthed fragments of the Buddha image have the same basic characteristics as those of the Southern Dynasty. The same adhesion technology is used in each part of the Buddha image, but "Baekie’s Smile"is its unique culture. In addition, the deputy line also explored the cultural factors of the Southern Dynasty in the unearthed tomb of the Tomb of Wuning King of Beiji. The arrangement of the tomb bricks and the pattern of the lotus pattern bricks are based on the southern style.Hierarchy.The similarities between the Baekje culture and the culture of the Southern Dynasty in many aspects also illustrate the superior position of the culture of the Southern Dynasty in the East Asian world.Baekje draws on the advanced cultural achievements of the Southern Dynasty and reflects the international, inclusive and creative nature of Baekje culture. On the other hand, from a political perspective, this is a manifestation of the Southern Dynasties within Baekje’s efforts. In addition,Baekje acted as a messenger of cultural spread in the Southern Dynasty. The advanced culture represented by Watang production technology,Baekje internalized and innovated and spread it to Silla and Japan.Japan also introduced Confucianism through Baekje, introduced various doctorates, and even communicated with the Chinese mainland government through Baekje again.Baekje became a bridge for cultural exchanges between China and Japan. In summary, after Baekje embraced the culture of the Southern Dynasties.it formed a unique Baekje culture. At the same time,it serves as a bridge for spreading the culture of the Southern Dynasty and spreads advanced culture to other parts of the Korean Peninsula and the Japanese archipelago. The main innovation of this article is the use of comparative research. The similarities and differences between the Baekje Datong Temple and the relics unearthed in the Southern Dynasty were sorted out.The reason why the Baekje Holy King imitated Xiao Liangwu Emperor to build the Datong Temple was analyzed, and then the political relationship and cultural exchange between Baekje and the Southern Dynasty were analyzed. In addition,it compares the tile-building technology of Baekje,Silla, and Japanese temples, and organizes the exchanges between Baekje and other countries’ cultures, which proves that Baekje plays a role in bridge culture in spreading the culture of the Southern Dynasty.
