At the beginning of last century, embodied phenomenology began to subvert people's understanding of philosophy and traditional knowledge.Maurice Merleau-Ponty's point of view played a very important role in this time node.He believed that people's understanding of space was first based on the body. It's nonsense to discuss people's cognition of space without the body. The body discussed here does not refer to our physical body, but refers to the phenomenal body, which is the complete unity of mind and body.People's experience of space is embodied.Vision, touch, smell and hearing play an important role in the perception of public sculpture. All the feelings come from people's body experience, which is the only way for people to understand and experience sculpture space. The ‘body'mentioned in this paper is the embodied body phenomenon mentioned by Merleau-Ponty.From the perspective of phenomenology,Merleau-Ponty provides a new perspective and way to think about the spatial cognition and experience of sculpture, which also indicates the Enlightenment of embodied theory on sculpture language. This paper will take this as an important direction of thinking, introduce embodied theory into the context of public sculpture research, and analyze the embodiment and value of embodied in public sculpture space.
