| We are in an era of information explosion,People’s Daily life is always filled with all kinds of information, the presentation of these data information can not be separated from the use of charts to visualize it.However, there is often a gap between big data engineers and users, and the improper use of charts may cause misunderstanding and cognitive deviation. In addition,in the field of information visualization, there is always the question of whether to decorate the infographic.Just about graphic dimensions of study, most of them adopt the method of behavior performance, this paper will use fNIRS brain imaging technology innovation and explore graphic dimensions affect users’ mental load size,to reduce the data gap between engineers and users,as well as the debate about how should decorate for the chart to provide some theoretical basis.Therefore,2D and 3D forms of bar chart and pie chart, which are the most common forms in the field of information visualization, are selected as experimental materials in this study.2D graphics represent the minimalism led by Tufte, emphasizing the maximum data-ink ratio;3D graphics represent the decor led by Holmes, emphasizing that graphics should arouse readers’ interest.Because pie charts and bar charts use different judgment strategies when doing comparison tasks, two experiments were carried out for bar charts and pie charts respectively in this study.Experiment one purpose is to explore the pie chart 2 d and 3 d forms to the user when using the effects of mental load, using 2(N-back:1-back,3-back)?2(dimension level: 3D or 2D)of the subjects in experimental design, recruited 25 college students as experimental subjects, try to complete the task by fNIRS record when the change of oxygenated hemoglobin content, and Eprime program participants reactions and error rates of these two indicators can be concluded that(1)through analyzing the behavior,2D pie chart and 3D pie chart there is no significant difference on reaction time and error rate;(2)From the brain imaging data of FNIRS,according to the activation degree of the four ROIs of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, frontal pole, ventrolateral prefrontal cortex and frontal eye fields,it can be concluded that the 3D pie chart consumes more oxygenated hemoglobin than the 2D pie chart, indicating that the 3D pie chart requires greater psychological load than the 2D pie chart. Two experiment is designed to explore the bar graph form of 2 d and 3 d to the user when using the effects of mental load, also use 2(N-back:1-back,3-back)?2(dimension level: 3D,2D)of the subjects in experimental design, recruited 25 college students as experimental subjects, try to complete the task by fNIRS record when the change of oxygenated hemoglobin content, and Eprime program records the subjects reaction time and error rate index can be concluded that(1)the two behavior bar chart 2 d and 3 d bar graph there is no significant difference on reaction time and error rate;(2)from the point of fNIRS brain imaging data, according to dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, frontal pole, ventrolateral prefrontal cortex and frontal eye fields can be concluded that the activation of these four ROI degree bar chart 2D and 3D bar graph in the consumption of oxyhemoglobin and there are no significant differences with the index, the bar chart 2D and 3D bar graph in the mental load is needed to complete the task the difference is not big.The difference between the results of pie chart and bar chart may be due to the different judgment methods. The pie chart is judged by the Angle or arc length of the sector.3D pie charts are more visually difficult because they increase the perspective effect and change the Angle and arc length of the sector.Therefore,3D pie charts require greater mental load than 2D pie charts. However, bar graphs are judged according to the height. No matter 2D bar graphs or 3D bar graphs, there is little change in height. Therefore, bar graphs are less affected by perspective, and there is little difference in psychological load required by the two forms.Based on the above results,we recommend that we avoid using 3D pie charts in reporting articles and recommend using 3D graphics in advertising brochures. |
