| At present,the research on history of Chinese cartography mainly focuses on ancient maps based on History and Geography.The research objects include maps unearthed and handed down maps.However,there are still few discussions on the maps published in modern newspapers,which is worth studying further of this area.Therefore,the maps of The Central Daily News are selected as the research object.The quantity,drawing methods and cartographers of the maps published on The Central Daily News are researched to figure out the information contained in the newspaper maps.The first chapter analyzes the general situation of the maps published in the The Central Daily News,divides the maps into military and political maps,and people’s livelihood categories.The quantitative analysis and content analysis of the maps in different periods from 1928 to 1949 are carried out.It is believed that the overall number of people’s livelihood maps published in the The Central Daily News is small and the development is slow.Military and political maps are greatly affected by the military and political situations in China and overseas.The same factors affect the two types of maps,the first is Ma Xingye being the president,he attached great importance to the maps,the next is the KMT news censorship was abolished after1945.The second chapter explores the source,cartographers and drawing characteristics of the map of The Central Daily News,and analyzes the role of propagandist maps and the propagandist function of general maps.Above all,the sources of maps on the The Central Daily News are divided into four categories,the first are maps marked with "reporter of this newspaper",the second are clearly signed or marked maps,the third are the official maps,and the fourth are maps without source identification.Through studying three organizational reforms of The Central Daily News,I learned that the drawing of The Central Daily News went from the unclear division of labor at the beginning to the creation of the post of art designer in the data group.Finally,the features of maps on The Central Daily News are low accuracy,imperfect and different map symbolism,and the style and level of the cartographers are also quite different.In the end,whether they are propaganda maps or general maps,the propaganda effect with a strong political purpose is far greater than the scientific significance of the maps,which is closely related to the quality of the party newspaper of the The Central Daily News.The third chapter make a systematic study on Maps Weekly of The Central Daily News,counts the number of maps published in Maps Weekly,and researches the life of the two editors.Both of them had certain accomplishments in cartography and journalism,and both were students of Ma Xingye in KMT Central Political school.Influenced by the "Missouri Model",Ma Xingye upheld the "learning by doing" journalistic education concept.After serving as the president of The Central Daily News,he has made newspapers as professional and magazine-oriented as possible.At the same time,he paid great attention to the collection of news materials.Maps Weekly was founded under Ma Xingye’s concept of newspaper management.Finally,Maps Weekly are consistent with the level of map development at that time.The drawing method is a mixing of Chinese and Western styles,and the cartographers uses legends according to personal habits.All in all,the maps published in Maps Weekly are not only creative news maps with science significance,but also propaganda maps serving the KMT rulers. |
