The progress of time,science and technology has made the old curriculum standards and textbooks unfit for the requirements on the education and talent fostering of China in the new era.Accordingly,the revision of textbooks has become an important procedure in the comprehensive reform of College entrance examination.In 2019,the General High School Textbook-Biology,which was compiled on the basis of the General High School Biology Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition),was published by People's Education Press,marking the first revision since the release of General High School Curriculum Standards Experimental Textbook-Biology.Molecule and Cell is the first required module in high school biology curriculum,which laid a foundation for the required,optionally required and optional modules in the future.Therefore,this paper is based on literature research and comparative research to have a detailed comparative study over the Molecule and Cell modules(Required Course I of the 2019 edition textbook and the 2007 edition textbook of PEP)from the perspectives of biological education,biology curriculum & didactics,constructivism,humanism,and zone of proximal development.While probing into the similarities and differences of the two editions and the features and disadvantages of the new textbook,it provides suggestions to teachers and students about scientific and reasonable use of the new textbook,alongside references to the revision and improvement of textbooks.Main contents of the study: 1)Compare the curriculum standards of the two editions of textbooks from the nature,concept,goal,and setting of curriculums.2)Fully analyze the two editions of textbooks from the perspectives of compilation style,unit setting,specific contents,chart application,exercise setting,and exploratory activity.3)By referring to the roles of educational theories in the two editions of textbooks,it compares and discusses the penetration of STS educational thought and biological science history,alongside an in-depth analysis of both.A summary is made for the features and deficiencies of the 2019 edition.The features: the compilation is more in line with China's educational goals in the new era;more attention on situation setting;a scientific demonstration of biology;the pictures are vivid,beautiful and clear;the exercises are properly arranged,flexible,and appropriate;more attention on exploratory activities and lab safety;more contents about STS education and biological science history.The deficiencies: some units are limited,and some unit functions are overlapped;some exploratory activities are limited and confined to the lab,without sufficient safety warning;insufficient in-depth penetrations of STS education and biological science history,without the setting of relevant activities;the lack of expanded network resources that match the textbooks.Regarding textbook revision,teaching,and learning,the following suggestions are made for the textbook: the textbook units should be added to the appendix for review;more types of exploratory activities should be added to be opener and more in-depth for wider coverage;step up online resource development.Suggestions for teaching: deepen the understanding of the 2017 edition of Curriculum Standards;properly deal with the connection between new and old textbooks;enhance professional ability;pay due attention to experiments,and devise teaching activities in response to different situations;properly use textbook charts and exercises.Suggestions for learning:properly understand the intrinsic principles and applications of knowledge;step up exploratory activities;use biological knowledge to explain the issues in life.According to the analysis and comparison,the 2019 edition text is generally in line with the compilation suggestions provided by the 2017 edition of Curriculum Standards,so it could follow up the progress of time,science and technology to make improvements in structure and contents,while integrating the key competence of biology discipline into every part of the textbook.
