The cause level for the disabled demonstrates how civilized one nation is.As a special genre of the disabled, children with intellectual disabilities are in strong need of social help.At present, intellectually disabled children account for more than half of handicapped children in our country.According to researches home and abroad, many children with intellectual disabilities are troubled by lacking interpersonal skill which is an important basis for them to integrate into the society. Therefore,it is urgent to improve the communication skill of children with intellectual disabilities.Recently, social work related to the intellectually disabled has played a central role in the development of the cause for the disabled. However, our national social work service has just started not long ago and the accumulation of due experience is far from enough.Few social work programs are designed specifically based on the characteristics of the disabled group with intellectual disabilities, among which even less researches touch on the interpersonal problem of children with intellectual disabilities.Guided by the theories of interpersonal needs, social learning and children's playing, this thesis adopts group work accompanied by methods of observation, interviewing and questionnaire,to enhance the interpersonal communicative ability of the mild or moderate intellectually disabled children. The author attempts to interpose the emotion-control skill, verbal skill and communicative skill of these children by conducting target activities like picture reading, video feedback, classes of interpersonal communication and training lessons. The performance and changes of each team member are recorded during the process of each event and their interpersonal skill is assessed by a measuring scale before and after the whole activity.Group work is feasible in dealing with issues about children with mild or moderate intellectual disabilities for their improvement of interpersonal skill can be clearly seen through comparison results. In the meantime, some other problems emerge during the group work so that the author puts forward some concrete suggestions towards families, schools and the whole society aiming at promoting the interpersonal skill of children with mild or moderate intellectual disabilities all-round.
