At present, there are relatively more educational resources based on mathematical modelling in universities, but relatively less for basic education. In most areas of China, the application of mathematical modelling in school mathematics teaching is relatively low. What's more, most of the mathematics teaching in primary and secondary schools still focuses on examination-based education, while relatively little attention is paid to the overall quality of students.Along with the continuous revision of the Curriculum Standards and the further development of the education reform, terms such as mathematical modelling and modelling ideas have emerged many times. At the same time, mathematical modelling has been proposed as a core literacy in mathematics. The introduction of mathematical modelling can promote the closer link between mathematical modelling and mathematics teaching, and enhance students' interest in learning mathematics and their awareness and ability to apply mathematics. Many educators are now exploring how to integrate mathematical modelling into secondary school teaching, but what is the practical application of mathematical modelling in secondary school mathematics? How do different actors view mathematical modelling? How should it be organized in practice? Understanding and solving these questions requires us to explore and practice the integration of mathematical modelling into secondary school mathematics teaching. In this paper,we use literature, survey and case study methods to develop our research in the following five parts:1.This course introduces the current status of mathematical modelling and its development in secondary and primary schools, and explains the purpose, significance and methodology of the topic.2.This course elaborates on the five-step process of mathematical modelling and the main models.Three common types of models based on the five-step approach are highlighted, namely optimization models, probabilistic models and dynamic models.3.This course investigates the integration of mathematical modelling into the teaching of mathematics in secondary schools so as to understand the perceptions of students, teachers and parents of mathematical modelling. So that we analyze the results of the survey and make suggestions or recommendations.4.Take the five-step approach to mathematical modelling as an example,as a method to combine mathematical modelling and teaching activities. We combine the content and teaching objectives of the secondary school curriculum, based on the optimization model and probability model.Based on the five-step approach to mathematical modelling,we make a teaching design. The five-step approach is a practical study of the integration of mathematical modelling into secondary school mathematics teaching and learning, with a brief description of which mathematics courses are suitable for the five-step approach.5.Conclusion.Summarize the conclusions drawn from the research process, and give constructive comments or suggestions.
