Aluminum titanate is a hot topic in the refractory materials research,which has a low coefficient of expansion,high melting point,low thermal conductivity,excellent thermal shock resistance and anti-erosion properties,but also both the slag resistance,corrosion resistance and a variety of metal and glass infiltration characteristics.In this paper,the research status of the slag resistance of refractories,the composites,preparation process and application of aluminum titanate composite materials is overviewed particularly.The effect of the aluminum titanate,tabular alumina,zirconia and molding pressure on apparent porosity,density and mechanical properties of the aluminum titanate composite materials is studied;The mechanism of sintering of aluminum titanate composite materials is described,but also the corrosions of the two kinds of slags on the sanmples is discussed by the method of stationary crucible.The results show that:Aluminum titanate composite materials showed better sintering and mechanical properties with the increase of the content of alumina.The synthetical property of the composite sample is best with the content 60%of aluminum titanate and the content 40%of alumina,especially the α-Al2O3 powder and tabular alumina content of 20%each.ZrO2 can reduce the porosity of Al2TiO5-tabular alumina composites,increase the bulk density,improve the flexural and compressive strength,and improve the performance of its high-temperature sintering.The synthetical property and erosion resistanceof Al2TiO5-tabular alumina composites is best with the content 4%of ZrO2,its apparent porosity was 9.31%,bulk density of 3.09g·cm-3,the flexural strength of 25.63MPa,the compressive strength of 224.94MPa.The effect of forming pressure on the bulk density is obvious,and on the density and mechanical properties shows a decreasing trend after the first increases.The samples show the maximum compressive strength and flexural strength when the forming pressure is 70MPa.The compressive strength reaches 181.58MPa and the flexural strength is 16.14MPa.Also the samples have best slag resistancewith less pores and cracks.To improve slag resistance of the material is by improving the density of the material,reducing the number of stomata;the smaller the viscosity of the slag,the more easily penetrate into the material,and the magnesium oxide,calcium oxide of the slag with the alumina oxide,titanium dioxide of the aluminum titanate can react which resulting in lower slag resistance.
