Poly(ethylene terephthalate,PET)is widely used in clothing and battery separators due to its excellent performance. However, different fields have different requirements for the hydrophobicity and acid-base resistance of polyester product surface, while polyester is a hydrophobic fiber and will be hydrolyzed under acidic conditions. In order to better control the hydrophobicity and acid-base resistance of polyester surface,In this paper, three functional monomers containing hydroxyl and epoxy groups in the structure were designed to modify the waterborne acrylate emulsion. The surface of polyester fabric was coated by surfactant and modified acrylate emulsion, and the preparation process of polyester fabric was optimized by response surface method, which provided data support for controlling the surface properties of polyester.Waterborne acrylate emulsion was synthesized by methyl methacrylate(MMA),butyl acrylate(BA)and acrylic acid(AA).The effects of polymerization temperature and time on the solid content and particle size distribution of the emulsion were investigated. The optimum polymerization temperature and time for the synthesis of waterborne acrylate emulsion were 70°C and 90 min, respectively.Three functional monomers, hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA)and hydroxypropyl methacrylate(HPMA)with hydroxyl group and glycidyl methacrylate(GMA)with epoxy group, were selected to synthesize and modify waterborne acrylate emulsion to explore the effect of functional monomer structure on the performance of waterborne acrylate emulsion. The results showed that the performance of GMA modified acrylate emulsion was the best and the optimal dosage of GMA was 2%.At this time, the average particle size of the emulsion decreased by 23.6%compared with that before modification, the shear viscosity was 182.6 m Pa·s at the shear rate of 3000 s-1,and the contact angle decreased from 44.58°to31.92°.The water absorption rate increased by 252%compared with that before modification, and the weight loss in acid leaching was 0.63%.The hydrophilicity and acid corrosion resistance of the modified emulsion were improved.Polyester was coated with 2%GMA modified acrylate emulsion and 2%GMA modified acrylate emulsion mixed with surfactant OP-10,respectively.The effects of single modified emulsion and mixed modified emulsion on the surface properties of polyester were investigated. The surface contact angle of polyester fabric prepared by single modified emulsion was 31.33°,the water absorption rate was increased by 65%compared with that before treatment, and the weight loss of acid immersion was 0.33%.The hydrophilicity and acid corrosion resistance were significantly improved. The surface contact angle of the polyester fabric prepared by the composite modified emulsion was 12.63°,and the weight loss of acid immersion was 0.28%.The hydrophilicity and acid corrosion resistance were further improved. The optimum preparation conditions of modified polyester fabric were optimized by response surface methodology.Taking solid content,OP-10 content and crosslinking temperature of GMA modified acrylate emulsion as independent variables, water flux test results as response surface value,Finally, the optimal preparation conditions of polyester fabric with hydrophilic, acid resistance and maximum water flux were obtained:solid content of emulsion was 18%,OP-10 content was 0.8%,crosslinking temperature was178°C.
