The Suez Canal expansion project is nearing completion, and there is little data on the hydrodynamics of ships.Obtaining accurate resistance data is important for ships to navigate efficiently and energy-efficiently.The sinking volume of ships is closely related to the surplus water depth, and the surplus water depth value is too large, which wastes the ship’s shipping capacity, and the value is too small, which increases the risk of ship grounding,so it is necessary to determine a reasonable surplus water depth value.Considering the above factors,it is necessary to study the resistance and sinking of DTC containers in the Suez Canal. This paper uses the CFD software STAR-CCM+to numerically simulate the flow field of DTC container ship motion by controlling a single variable by the Renault averaging method(RANS),which is based on the Suez to Great Bitter Lake section of the Suez Canal, the channel before the expansion is the original channel, and the expanded channel is the extended channel. After numerical simulation experiments, the following conclusions are obtained:(1)The numerical simulation test of the flow field of the static direct navigation of the DTC container ship was carried out to obtain the drag, sinking and trim data of the ship. The correlation of the grid is verified, and the numerical simulation calculation results are compared with the pool test results, and the reliability of the model established in this paper is analyzed and verified.(2)In the original channel, when the F_ris 0.151,the ship bottoms out,and in the extended channel, the ship can safely sail at this speed. In the expanded channel, the total drag coefficient of ships first decreases and then increases with the increase of F_r.As the speed increases, the stern inclination angle to reach the minimum drag gradually increases. The channel section coefficient has a great influence on the total drag coefficient, and when the speed is the same, the channel section coefficient becomes larger and the total resistance coefficient of the ship becomes smaller.(3)The factors affecting the excess water depth were analyzed, and it was concluded that the subsidence was the key factor in determining the excess water depth. In the expanded channel,as the speed increases, the sinking increases; With the increase of stern tilt, the sinking volume of ships at various speeds gradually decreases; When the stern of the ship is the same level,as the speed increases, the sinking volume of the ship will also increase. When the speed is the same, the channel section coefficient becomes larger and the ship sinks smaller.(4)The characteristics of DTC container ships sailing in the Suez Canal are summarized, and safe navigation countermeasures are proposed.
