This paper takes the armchairs of Ming and Qing dynasties as the research object, and through collecting a large number of pictures and documents, analyzes the shape, structure and decoration characteristics of the armchairs of the official hats of southern Ming and Qing Dynasties, the armchairs of the four heads of the official hats and the rose armchairs, and explores the rules and characteristics of the armchairs of Ming and Qing dynasties in the overall shape, local shape, overall decoration and local decoration.Based on this, the paper further compares the differences in shape, structure and decoration of armchairs in Ming and Qing dynasties, and finally combines the rules and characteristics of armchairs in Ming and Qing dynasties with modern design for design practice. This study enriches the research system of armchairs in Ming and Qing dynasties and provides references for the application of traditional furniture features in modern furniture. In the study of the imperial hat armchair in the south of Ming and Qing Dynasties, the paper makes an in-depth analysis from two aspects: shape, structure and decoration. In the aspect of shape and system, the ratio relationship between the upper and lower parts and the whole scales of the Nanguan armchairs in the Ming and Qing dynasties is compared and analyzed, and it is concluded that the Nanguan armchairs in the Qing Dynasty generally follow the Ming Dynasty in the ratio range and the trend of ratio change. This paper compares and analyzes the overall shape characteristics and the partial parts of the southern official hat armchair in Ming and Qing dynasties, and draws the conclusion that the overall and partial shape differences in Ming and Qing Dynasties are mainly reflected in the overall visual perception, the type and form of the partial parts. In the decoration part, statistics and analysis were made on the overall decoration of the hats and armchairs of the southern official hats of the Ming and Qing Dynasties from the three aspects of decorative techniques, decorative pattern types and decorative parts,so as to draw the conclusion that the Ming Dynasty attaches importance to the coordination of decoration, while the Qing Dynasty attaches importance to the gorgeousness of decoration.By comparing and analyzing the local decoration in Ming and Qing dynasties,it is concluded that there are some differences in the types, positions, composition rules and meanings of decorative patterns. In the research on the armchairs of the first four official hats in Ming and Qing dynasties, the ratio relationship between the upper and lower parts of the chair and the overall size of the chair is compared and analyzed, and the Qing Dynasty generally follows the ratio characteristics of the Ming Dynasty.By comparing the overall shape characteristics of the chair in Ming and Qing dynasties with the shape characteristics of the local parts,it is concluded that there are differences between the two generations in terms of visual perception and the shape of the local parts. In the overall decoration, the area of decorative patterns in Qing Dynasty is larger than that in Ming Dynasty, but the distribution of decorative patterns in Ming Dynasty is more coordinated and balanced. In local decoration, the Ming and Qing Dynasties have their own style characteristics, and the differences are mainly reflected in four aspects: decorative pattern type, pattern position, pattern composition law and pattern meaning. In the study of rose armchairs in Ming and Qing dynasties, the comparative analysis of each ratio value of rose armchairs in Ming and Qing dynasties shows that the ratio range and the change trend of rose armchairs in Ming and Qing dynasties are basically similar, and the Qing Dynasty generally follows the characteristics of Ming Dynasty.Comparative analysis of the overall and partial features of rose armchairs in Ming and Qing Dynasties shows that the Ming Dynasty has a harmonious and full shape, while the Qing Dynasty has a simple and light visual sense. This paper analyzes the overall decoration and partial decoration characteristics of rose armchairs in Ming and Qing dynasties, compares the decoration techniques, decorative pattern types and other aspects for reference, and draws the conclusion that the decoration in Ming Dynasty is more abundant than that in Qing Dynasty, while in Qing Dynasty,it is mainly decorated by the form of parts. The study on the application of Ming and Qing armchairs is carried out from two aspects of design analysis and design practice respectively, combining the range of form and proportion, overall and local morphological characteristics, decorative laws and decorative features obtained in the previous paper with modern furniture design, improving both form and decoration, integrating modern furniture modeling design concepts and modern decorative aesthetic concepts while retaining the form and decorative features of Ming and Qing armchairs, resulting in six design practice works that contain both the form and decorative features of Ming and Qing armchairs and conform to modern aesthetics, providing new ideas for modern chair furniture design.
