| In this paper,polyethylene wax(PEW)was used as the main modifying material to modify bamboo chips to produce high performance wax-finished bamboo chips.Compared to the untreated bamboo chips,the physical and chemical properties of the wax-treated bamboo chips,such as dimensional stability,surface hydrophobicity,mechanical properties,corrosion and mildew resistance,were all improved to varying degrees,which meets the performance requirements of wax-finished bamboo furniture.The main research and conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)Firstly,single-factor experiments were used to investigate the effects of maleic anhydride(MAH)concentration,PEW grafting temperature and grafting time on the water absorption properties of boiled wax-modified bamboo chips and to determine the range of factors.Then the effect of various process factors on the water absorption weight gain rate was investigated by orthogonal experiments.The results showed that the bamboo chips modified with the preferred PEW boiling wax heat treatment method showed the lowest weight gain in terms of water absorption,21.12%less than the untreated material,at a MAH concentration of 10%,a finishing temperature of 120℃ and a finishing time of 2 hours.The surface water contact angle analysis showed that the initial contact angle of the treated bamboo chips was 98.53°,which was 22.39° higher than that of the unprocessed material.Analysis of mechanical properties showed that the strength of the treated bamboo panels was reduced compared to the untreated material,with smooth-grained tensile strength,static flexural strength(MOR)and flexural modulus of elasticity(MOE)reduced by 9.91%,47.59%and 46.88%respectively.(2)Bamboo chips were impregnated and hot pressed using PEW.First,the effects of heat press pressure,temperature,and time on the tensile strength of smooth-grained bamboo chips were investigated through single-factor experiments to determine the range of factors.Then,the process parameters were optimized by response surface method and a quadratic multiple regression model was established.The results showed that hot pressing pressure and time were the key factors,and there was a significant interaction between hot pressing pressure and temperature.When the hot pressing pressure was 2.2 MPa,the temperature was 120 ℃ and the time was 8 min,the average tensile strength of bamboo slices was 205.39 MPa,which was 81.84%greater than untreated material.The surface water contact angle was increased by 12.14°.The water absorption analysis showed that the water content of the treated bamboo was reduced by 52.56%compared to the untreated bamboo after 192 h of water immersion.The flexural modulus of elasticity analysis showed that the strength of the treated bamboo was significantly enhanced,and the MOR and MOE increased by 30.80%and 122.88%,respectively,compared with the untreated bamboo.(3)Using the basic structure,mechanical properties,molding process,aesthetic characteristics and other basic attributes o f the modified bamboo pieces as raw materials,the PEW wax-impregnated hot-pressing treated bamboo pieces were used to design multiperson sofas,single chairs,coffee tables and other design objects,to carry out program design and sample production,which verified the morphological expressiveness,natural texture and advantages of wax-treated monolithic bamboo strips in bamboo furniture in furniture modeling design,and moreover conveyed the deep It also conveys the deep Chinese traditional cultural connotation and the charm of the new Chinese style,which helps to create an ecological and comfortable living environment and reflects the main theme of people-oriented life.Based on the above research,a series of experiments were conducted on the modification of bamboo chips,and the feasibility of its practical application was demonstrated by using wax-treated bamboo chips as raw materials for furniture,which provides some reference value for the design and application of bamboo chips in furniture. |
