| Paper-based furniture has potential applications in various temporary settings such as temporary exhibitions,events,and emergency housing due to its green and sustainable properties,including its lightweight,recyclability,and reuse.This study takes a systematic approach from material assessment to product design to investigate the properties of corrugated sandwich paperboard,edge sealing techniques,structural connection methods,and furniture product shaping methods.A V-groove edge sealing and shaping integration technology is proposed for easy industrial mass production,and a temporary furniture design technical system based on lightweight corrugated sandwich paperboard is preliminarily established.Case design applications are conducted based on this research,which provides technical support for the design and manufacturing of paper-based furniture and is of significant importance for further engineering applications.The main research content and results are as follows:(1)Firstly,experimental research was conducted on corrugated sandwich paperboard with a thickness of 10-20 mm.The influence of different configuration factors on the mechanical bearing performance of corrugated sandwich paperboard was analyzed based on the experimental factors of paperboard thickness,core layer corrugated type,covering material,and covering thickness.The smaller the thickness and height of the cardboard,the higher the flat compression strength.The thicker the cover,the smaller the gap,and the higher the bending strength.The influence of core layer corrugated shape on the bending strength to weight ratio is not significant.Taking into account the strength to weight ratio and cost,the optimal assembly process is core layer corrugated A-shaped corrugated,with the core layer arranged longitudinally in the length direction of the cardboard,and the covering material is 0.4 mm kraft paper.The flat compressive strength of this cardboard is 29~51%higher than that of ordinary honeycomb cardboard,and the difference in flat compressive strength to weight ratio is small compared to honeycomb cardboard.The bending strength is 61~80%higher,and the bending strength to weight ratio is 16~41%higher.(2)Based on the material properties of corrugated sandwich paperboard,a V-shaped groove edge banding and molding integration method that is easy to mass industrial production is proposed.The test results show that the optimal groove angle is 95°,the bottom is 2 mm,and the aesthetics and edge banding strength are better than those of adhesive tape edge banding.The double-layer corrugated sandwich board prepared on the basis of V-shaped groove folding can be used in occasions with high load bearing and large span,and the thickness of the folded board is between 20 mm and 40 mm.The flat compression strength is 0.4~0.74 Mpa,which has a smaller difference compared to the same thickness of cardboard.The bending strength is 1.4~2.6 MPa,which increases by 8-38%compared to the same thickness of cardboard.Use the above molding methods to prepare furniture shelves such as table panels and cabinets for design applications.(3)Based on the properties of corrugated sandwich board materials,corrugated paperboard furniture is classified into two types:integral connection structure and connection structure with paper tube.In the T-shaped bending test of the integral structure,the plug-in joint is better than the mortise and tenon joint and self-tapping screw.The failure bending moments are 10.6 N/m,10 N/m,and 3.3 N/m.Therefore,the design should mainly use plug-in and mortise and tenon joints,with self-tapping screws as auxiliary.To address the lack of technology in connecting paperboard and paper tubes,a tapered connector is designed.The experimental results show that the angle of the connector has a significant impact on the connection performance.Taking into account the usage situation,the optimal angle is 70°,the ultimate tensile strength is 385 N,the closing torque and opening torque are 9 N/m and 5 N/m.(4)Through literature research and fieldwork,three applications of temporary furniture are analyzed,and the design methods and principles of temporary furniture are summarized to guide the design applications.Through material costing,the economical and optimal A-flute sandwich cardboard is selected for design application to establish a better engineering system for production and application,and to further promote the market-oriented paper furniture. |
