| Musical instrument making,as a kind of manual skill,mainly relies on two ways of family inheritance and learning,oral instruction.Artists master the method of making Musical Instruments with their masters’ teaching,personal experience and understanding.Especially,as instruments are used to play music,their tone quality,timbre and intonation are directly related to artists’ artistic accomplishment,understanding and feeling ability of music.The musical instrument making skills of Kashgar region of Xinjiang not only inherit the production experience of ancestors,but also rely on the careful understanding and perfection of modern musical instrument making artists.The purpose of this paper is to examine the inheritance of traditional string instrument-making skills in Kashgar,Xinjiang,using a multidisciplinary approach that includes ethnomusicology,philology,instrumentality,music acoustics,and other related fields.The research is based on previous studies and field investigations conducted in the Kashgar region of Xinjiang.In this paper,we provide an overview of the relevant research perspectives and methods and describe the structure of the paper.Chapter 1: Investigation of Musical Instrument Making Industry in Kashgar This chapter presents the findings of our field survey on the inheritance status of traditional string musical instruments in Kashgar.We analyze the current situation of traditional musical instrument production families,production skills inheritance,and sales status of traditional musical instruments in Kashgar.We identify the challenges faced by these families in preserving their traditional skills and discuss potential solutions.Chapter 2: Investigation on The Production Techniques of Traditional String Instruments in KashgarIn this chapter,we provide an overview of traditional string instruments in Kashgar,including their external shape,production techniques,characteristics,and functions.We draw upon previous research results,as well as literature and field investigation data,to provide a comprehensive understanding of these instruments.Chapter 3: Acoustic Characteristics of Musical Instruments and Native CultureThis chapter examines the relationship between the acoustic characteristics of musical instruments and native culture in Kashgar.We analyze the acoustic performance of Daolang Muqam and twelve Muqam musical instruments,different groups of musical aesthetics,and compare the acoustic characteristics of some musical instruments.We provide insights into the cultural significance of these instruments and their impact on the local community.Chapter 4: Inheritance of Traditional String Instrument-making Skills In the final chapter,we reflect on the inheritance of traditional string instrument-making skills in Kashgar and analyze the existing problems and reasons for the decline in these skills.We propose solutions for how to protect and inherit Kashgar’s traditional music culture through the integration of culture and tourism.We discuss the potential benefits of preserving traditional music culture,such as promoting the improvement of Chinese musical instruments,protecting cultural diversity,and enhancing cultural exchange and integration. |
