The challenge for sustainable development research is clear: How can we pursue human well-being while keeping negative impacts on the planet within acceptable limits? There are many lakes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the lake ecosystem provides supply service, support service, regulation service and cultural service for the development of the surrounding cities. The state and changes of ecosystems are closely linked to human well-being.In recent years, the social and economic development of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River has achieved remarkable achievements. On the other hand, irrational large-scale and high intensity human activities directly threaten the healthy development of the lake ecosystem. It is very important for the realization of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)that how to formulate the management objectives of environmental system elements and social system elements, realize the sustainable development assessment of social-ecosystem system and explore the path of regional sustainable development. In this dissertation is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River region of Chaohu watershed as the research object, through the lakes sedimentary record, record and historical documents of the environmental monitoring multi-source data, such as rebuilding the development process of the evolution of Chaohu watershed environment, construction of safe and just operating space, explore the environmental system elements and social system of the interaction relations,To identify the priority management indicators of socio-ecological system in Chaohu watershed, and provide scientific basis for regional sustainable development. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The indicator of sediment environmental proxy reveals the environmental evolution process of the watershed ecosystem in the past 100 years. The accumulation rate of pollutants in lake sediments is closely related to the intensity and scale of human activities. With the development of urbanization, there is a "big acceleration" stage(after 1950s),the structure and function of the lake watershed ecosystems have changed obviously.(2)Safe and just operating space of watershed scale shows the development state of the key elements of the social-ecological system of the watershed. There are obvious spatial differences in the development of different sub-watersheds.This suggests that small-scale studies may help to reveal more clearly the differences in the intensity of human activities and resource endowments in socio-ecosystems.For the formulation of policies and environmental management objectives, the realization of fine management has more guiding value.(3)The impacts of SDGs realization process on environmental sustainability are analyzed, and the impacts of SDGs realization on environmental sustainability and the complex interaction between society and ecosystem are revealed. The realization of SDGs threatens the health of the ecosystem to some extent, but it also promotes the development of the environment. In addition, the interaction among the elements of the environmental system makes the management of social-ecological system more difficult. This study conducted theoretical and methodological research on the spatial downscaling of planetary boundaries and safe and just operating space framework, based on the "top-down and bottom-up" method. The lake sediment record and the SDGs are integrated into the spatial downscaling study of safe and just operating space, which overcomes the problem of insufficient long-term data recording. The regional scale sustainable development assessment method is innovated,it reflects the feasibility of the research on the downscaling of the spatial framework of safe and just operating space. In addition, this study is of great significance to the management and decision-making of ecosystems in Chaohu Lake watershed and other watersheds that are strongly disturbed by human activities,by reconstructing the long-term evolution process of watershed social-ecosystem and revealing the impact of SDGs implementation on the environmental system.
