Research On The Relationship Between Environmental Tone At The Top,Environmental Management Practices And Environmental Performance

As an economic subject,while striving to pursue economic interests,enterprises should also bear social responsibility,link the sustainable development of enterprises with the sustainable development of the whole society,and actively bear environmental responsibility.According to the higher-order theory,the environmental protection values of executives will affect the environmental strategy choice of enterprises.So does the public speech of senior executives in the social responsibility report represent the real environmental values? Have the senior executives been consistent in their words and deeds and effective in their actions? This is a question worth studying.In response to this problem,this paper takes environmental information disclosure and relevant environmental laws and regulations as the background,and takes Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share heavily polluting listed companies from 2016 to 2020 as samples.Based on the higher-order theory,organizational legitimacy theory,fiduciary responsibility theory and resource-based view theory,this paper brings the environmental tone at the top,environmental management practice and environmental performance into the analysis framework to study the relationship and impact path among the three.Firstly,based on text mining technology,this paper counts the keyword frequency of environmental responsibility in the speech of senior executives in the social responsibility report,and divides it into reactive environmental tone representing the values of compliance with laws and regulations and proactive environmental tone representing the awareness of sustainable environmental protection according to semantics.Secondly,a systematic evaluation index system of environmental management practice is constructed with reference to relevant documents.Finally,from the perspective of environmental consequences,environmental performance is measured by environmental rewards,and a variety of factors affecting the explained variables are controlled.Based on theoretical and empirical analysis,it is concluded that there is a positive correlation between environmental tone at the top and environmental performance to a certain extent,in which reactive environmental tone has a significant positive impact on environmental performance,and there is a positive relationship between proactive environmental tone and environmental performance,but the significance is unstable;The environmental tone at the top and its subdivided reactive environmental tone and proactive environmental tone can promote enterprises to carry out environmental management practice;Environmental management practice plays an intermediary role between environmental tone at the top and environmental performance,between reactive environmental tone and environmental performance,and plays an unstable intermediary role in the relationship between proactive environmental tone and environmental performance.
