| According to the report to the 20 th National Congress of the CPC,China must unswervingly follow the path of civilized development featuring increased production,a prosperous life and a sound ecological environment, and unswervingly expand opening-up;it also emphasized the need to optimize the regional open layout and consolidate the pioneering position of opening up the eastern coastal region.Since the reform and opening up,Guangdong has been the leader, pioneer and experimental zone of China’s reform and opening up,and foreign investment has played a pivotal role in Guangdong’s achievements today. The 2023 Guangdong Provincial Government Work Report proposes that Guangdong should take up the important task of sharply opening up and comprehensively expanding, and build Guangdong into a global hub area for high-end factor concentration and resource allocation.Green total factor productivity can clearly reflect the quality and comprehensive benefits of a region’s economic development.Studying the impact of foreign direct investment(FDI)on green total factor productivity in Guangdong Province can not only learn from history,so that Guangdong can make better use of foreign investment in the future, but also provide valuable experience for other provinces and cities in China by sorting out the pulse of foreign investment utilization in Guangdong. The main content of this paper is divided into four parts: theoretical analysis, current situation analysis, empirical study, conclusion and recommendation.Firstly,in the theoretical analysis section, this paper summarizes the literature on foreign direct investment(FDI),green total factor productivity(GTFP)and the impact of FDI on GTFP,and then analyzes the specific mechanism of the impact of FDI on GTFP from three aspects, such as capital effect, technology effect and environmental effect analysis, and puts forward the research hypothesis of this paper.Secondly,in the analysis of the current situation, this paper analyzes the current situation of FDI in Guangdong Province from the development history, investment mode and source distribution of FDI in Guangdong Province, and adopts the non-radial and non-angle super-efficient SBM model to measure the green total factor productivity of 21 cities in Guangdong Province in combination with the GML index, and analyzes the decomposition term and the data of each region and city in Guangdong Province in detail.Again,in the empirical study section, this paper firstly conducted a benchmark regression using a two-way fixed effects model, and then separately regressed the decomposition terms of GTFP to test the regional heterogeneity of the Pearl River Delta, the east and west wings of Guangdong and the northern eco-region,and then examined the threshold effects of human capital and environmental regulation by replacing the explanatory variables, core explanatory variables, and generalized moments estimation in three ways to conduct robustness tests. Finally,in the conclusion and recommendation section, the results of this paper are as follows: the increase of FDI can significantly improve green total factor productivity in Guangdong Province, and the promotion effect on its decomposition term green technical efficiency is not significant, while the promotion effect on green technological progress is very significant, and the promotion effect on the Pearl River Delta region is significant, while all other regions are not significant;it successfully passed the three ways of robustness test;the effect of FDI on GTFP in Guangdong Province There exists a double threshold effect of human capital and environmental regulation.Based on the above results, this paper puts forward corresponding policy suggestions in five aspects, including strengthening the introduction of foreign investment, enhancing the level of human capital, increasing the intensity of environmental regulation, narrowing the regional gap,and improving the efficiency of resource utilization. |
