Thermoplastic polyurethane(TPU)is a block polymer consisting of alternating soft and hard chain segments.Its excellent low-temperature properties and good abrasion resistance make it widely used in many applications.However,TPU is flammable and produces molten droplets during combustion,which limits its use in a wide range of applications.For this reason,TPU needs to be modified for flame retardancy.Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers(ABS)are a class of terpolymers whose advantages,such as good weather resistance and insulation,have led to its use in a number of applications.However,ABS is flammable and produces molten droplets during combustion,and traditional flame retardant modifications can cause significant damage to its impact strength,which limits the promotion of this material.For this reason,ABS needs to be modified with flame retardant toughening.The results of this paper cover the following three parts:(1)Mg O and AHP were selected to form a composite flame retardant system,where Mg O was used as a co-effector and AHP was used as the main flame retardant.The experimental study showed that the UL-94 rating of the TPU composite was V0 and the LOI value increased from 22.1%to 25.7%when the two were added at a ratio of 1:4 to form a 20 wt.%flame retardant system.At the same time,the mechanical properties of the TPU composites were at the same level as those of the TPU composites with 20%AHP addition,which could meet the basic requirements of TPU materials.(2)In order to explore a new way to construct a flame retardant system for AHP in TPU,melamine and cyanuric acid were selected to coat the surface of AHP to obtain MCAHP,and MCAHP was compounded with PTFE and added to polyether TPU.It was found that with the addition of 19.5%MCAHP and0.5%PTFE,the LOI of the polyether TPU increased from 22.1%to 28.7%with a UL-94 rating of V1,and the flame retardant performance of the material was significantly improved.However,the mechanical properties of the modified TPU material were almost half of those of the pure sample,and the mechanical effects of the flame retardant modification should not be ignored.(3)AHP was used in ABS flame retarding treatment and a toughening system(AX and ABS high glue powder)was introduced to furtherly improve the toughness of the modified ABS.It was found that ABS modified with 20%AHP,10%ABS high glue powder and 10%toughening agent AX had an increase in LOI value from 18.0%to 24.2%,a UL-94 rating of V0 and a significant decrease in total heat release(THR),peak heat release rate(PHRR)and peak smoke release rate(PSPR).The material also has an impact strength of 12.7 KJ/m~2that exceeds 70%of the impact strength of the pure sample,which can meet the daily use requirements of ABS.
