Due to its good performance,metal foam has attracted wide attention.At present,most of the relevant researches on metal foam focus on light metal.Limited by factors such as high melting point of iron foam and difficult preparation,there are few researches on iron foam,but iron foam has the characteristics of high strength,high temperature resistance,corrosion resistance and so on.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the preparation and properties of iron foam.In this paper,a pore-making agent was selected and used to prepare the iron foam with pore size of 2mm,3 mm and 4 mm.The influence of the main parameters of the pore-making agent on the pore structure of the iron foam was studied.Then the compressive properties of the iron foam were tested and the effect of pore structure on the mechanical properties of the iron foam was studied.Finally,the optimum technological route for preparing iron foam with the pore-forming agent was obtained by comprehensive analysis.The results of this study have certain theoretical significance and practical value for the preparation of iron foam.The main contents and results of this study are as follows:(1)Na2S2O3·5H2O can be used as a new pore-making agent for the preparation of iron foam because of its low melting point,easy removal and easy forming.In this paper,the pore-making agent was used to prepare iron foam with a diameter of 2 mm,3 mm and 4 mm,and its porosity was60%and 70%.It is found that the actual porosity increases with the addition of pore-making agent,but the actual porosity is often lower than the addition of pore-making agent;(2)Through the binarization treatment and analysis of the foamed iron,the results indicate that:when the porosity is invariant,the iron foam pore size of 2 mm is the most spherical.When the size of the pore is invariant,the pores of iron foam with porosity of 70%are the closest to spherical;(3)The mechanical properties of iron foam were tested and analyzed by compression test.The results show that when the pore diameter of iron foam is 2 mm,the yield strength and the mean stress of platform are the highest.At 1100℃,the iron foam with porosity of 70%shows better mechanical properties,and at 1150℃and 1200℃,the iron foam with porosity of 60%shows better mechanical properties.Without changing the size of the pore and porosity,the mechanical properties of iron foam at1150℃are the best;(4)The energy absorption properties of iron foam are studied and analyzed.The results show that iron foam with good mechanical properties also has good energy absorption properties;(5)Considering the effect of pore size,porosity and sintering temperature on pore structure and properties of iron foam,the optimum conditions for preparing iron foam are as follows:pore size of 2mm,porosity of 60%and sintering temperature of 1150℃.
