The construction of ecological civilization is an important dimension of Chinese path to modernization, which reflects the important characteristics of harmonious coexistence between man and nature. To achieve this goal, people’s view of nature urgently needs to change, that is,from the binary opposition between humans and nature to the concept of harmonious coexistence. This requires us to explore relevant ideas about nature from Marxist classical writers,in order to provide theoretical support for building an ecological civilized society.Mao Zedong Thought,as a product of the combination of Marxism Leninism and the practice of Chinese revolution and construction, contains rich ideas about nature. In view of this, studying Mao Zedong’s view on nature, reviewing the development history of Mao Zedong’s view on nature in the past century, analyzing the changes in ideology in different periods, exploring the specific content of Mao Zedong’s scientific thought on nature, and exploring the individuality of his thought can provide new solutions and establish new scientific concepts of nature for the construction of ecological civilization in the new era.The formation of Mao Zedong’s view on nature has its historical inevitability. This scientific thought is based on theory and practice, which not only has theoretical and logical nature, but also has historical and practical significance. In terms of theoretical basis,it inherits both the Marxist Leninist view of nature and the traditional Chinese cultural view of nature. In terms of practical basis,it exhibits different characteristics in different historical periods. The main content of Mao Zedong’s view on nature is reflected in several aspects: firstly, viewing nature from a materialistic perspective, that is,the laws of natural materialism can be recognized by humans; The second is to view nature from the perspective of epistemology, that is,understanding nature needs to be based on practice and needs a process; The third is to view nature from a dialectical perspective, that is,to understand the dialectical relationship between nature and its transformation. These contents have both independent characteristics and the characteristics of mutual infiltration and unity.Based on this,Mao Zedong’s view of nature also exhibits several characteristics of openness,people-oriented,practical,and revolutionary. In short,Mao Zedong’s view of nature shines with ideological light everywhere, which has profound inspiration for us to build contemporary ecological civilization construction in society.Mao Zedong’s view on nature has a specific historical status and contemporary value. It not only enriches Mao Zedong Thought, but also influences the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics. It demonstrates the characteristics of a people-oriented economic development policy, which regards harmonious coexistence between humans and nature and the construction of a harmonious society as the fundamental goal of economic work.It adheres to the green ecological concept of seeking truth from facts, guided by visionary scientific thinking, advocates comprehensive consideration,long-term planning, and grasping the overall ecological layout, truly reflecting the characteristics of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. These natural concepts with brilliant ideas are just what we need to build Chinese path to modernization and ecological civilization society. Therefore,we need to hold high the banner of Mao Zedong’s concept of nature, guided by Mao Zedong’s scientific concept of nature, and combined with the objective background of the new era,in order to properly solve the goal of achieving a great power in a beautiful China.
