As the number of autistic children increases, the attention from the community to this group also increases yearly.Past studies have shown that hand fine motor skills could affect the development of language, cognition, and social skills in children with autism. To improve the motor control ability of the hands of this group, this paper explored and evaluated a play-teaching tool for fine motor training of autistic children.Based on the analysis of the development status of autistic children’s fine motor and children’s training aids, this paper determined the primary development and design directions: Under the guidance of product design procedures and methods, explore the product’s function, form, and appearance required by autistic children, teachers, and parents, and integrate the critical points of need into the design practice of training aids products.Firstly,we collected the user preference data from the autistic children’s teachers and parents through interviews and questionnaires and analyzed them through a Kano model to achieve user preference data. Then, the key points of hand fine motor training were summarized by analyzing autistic children’s behaviors. An EEG experiment was designed to explore the user’s preference for color and form, and a tactile experiment was used to explore the user’s preference for material and texture.Thirdly, combing with the user preference of autistic children’s teachers and parents,we screened the design scheme with a7-point Likert scale and further developed the best scheme. Finally,an evaluation was made by both teachers and parents. This project started from the needs of children with autism and their teachers and parents and was demand-driven to enhance the fine motor skills of children with autism.Except for providing an effective training tool for autistic children,it verifies that interdisciplinary integration can provide a reliable basis for design practice. Finally, this design also enhanced the sensitivity and attention of design scholars to particular groups and provided more humane solutions for their design practice.
