| With the growth of global trade and the international integration of supply chain, the embodied carbon emissions of export continue to increase. However, obtaining more economic benefits from export trade and promoting domestic economic growth are still the main objectives of all trading nations. Therefore,It’s an extremely urgent problem for all trading nations to balance the economic benefits of export and the environmental costs of carbon emissions. In this context, the manufacturing intelligentization provides a new opportunity for realizing green and low-carbon export.Based on the perspective of international trade, this paper focuses on manufacturing intelligentization’s impact on carbon emissions reduction, and systematically analyzes and summarizes the mechanism of manufacturing intelligentization on the embodied carbon intensity of exports based on the existing literature, and constructs panel data of 40 countries from 2005 to2014 so that empirically test the impact and mechanism of manufacturing intelligentization on the embodied carbon intensity of exports. The conclusions are as follows:(1)manufacturing intelligentization has a significant inhibitory effect on the embodied carbon intensity of exports, which is still valid after replacing the core variables;(2)The indirect effect test shows that manufacturing intelligentization has an indirect impact on the embodied carbon intensity of exports through economies of scale, technological advance and optimization of energy consumption structure.Among them, economies of scale and technological advance play prominent role in the above three influence mechanisms, accounting for 42.6% and 12.9% of the total effect respectively while optimization of energy consumption structure accounting for only8.8% of the total effect;(3)Heterogeneity test shows that the inhibition effect of manufacturing intelligentization in developing countries on reducing the embodied carbon intensity of exports is more prominent than that in developed countries, and the inhibition effect of improving the level of manufacturing intelligentization on the embodied carbon intensity of exports of intermediate goods is greater than that on the embodied carbon intensity of exports of final goods. Finally, the above research conclusions provide policy implications for promoting green and low-carbon transformation of China’s export. |
