Expressway is an important infrastructure that has changed the macro pattern of world transportation. Its construction and development have effectively promoted the social and economic processes of countries around the world, but it has also brought many ecological and environmental damage problems.Under the guidance of the governance strategy of "promoting green development and promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and nature",the design and construction concept of highways has shifted from focusing solely on economic and engineering aspects to emphasizing sustainable development and multi-objective coordination.Road area ecological environment protection has become a hot topic of research and attention. The proposal of expressway corridor engineering ecology provides new ideas for the protection of ecological environment in the road area.Ecological reconstruction is carried out along the highway with the aim of forming a new ecological system, emphasizing the quality of the ecological base, improving the landscape effect of the road area, promoting the play of ecological functions, and developing the coordinated progress of highway development and ecological environment protection work. Therefore, the study of the ecology of highway corridor engineering ecology has important practical significance. This article first deduces the concept of engineering ecology based on the induction and comparison of basic theories such as composite ecology, artificial ecology, and road area ecology, highlighting the significant advantage of the virtuous cycle of engineering ecosystems themselves.Introducing the concept of engineering ecology into the work practice of ecological protection in highway road areas, the concept of highway corridor engineering ecology is creatively proposed. The connotation of highway corridor engineering ecology is explored based on spatial scale, concept definition, and mechanism of action, and its functional characteristics and constituent elements are deeply analyzed to establish a comprehensive understanding.Comprehensively considering the support and foundation of the expressway corridor project to maintain long-term ecological operation and bring benefits into play, the paper adopts the literature analysis method, frequency analysis method and Delphi method, and selects 14 corresponding indicators to reflect the overall ecological effect of the expressway corridor engineering project based on the three aspects of base conditions, landscape effects and ecological functions,so as to build the ecological effect evaluation index system of expressway corridor engineering project.Use the entropy weight method to determine the weight of ecological effect evaluation indicators for highway corridor engineering, and then further select the weighted combination evaluation method to improve the process of ecological effect evaluation for highway corridor engineering. To verify the effectiveness and practicality of the constructed ecological effect evaluation index system for highway corridor engineering,it was applied to the highway from Xixiang County to Zhenba County in Hanzhong City,Shaanxi Province. After calculation and analysis, the comprehensive evaluation index scores and corresponding evaluation levels of each of the four sections of Xizhen Expressway were obtained. The empirical results indicate that the highway corridor engineering ecology proposed in this article can be effectively applied to the practice of road ecological environment protection. As a transitional area between highways and natural ecology,it helps to promote the coordination and stability of the two.The constructed ecological effect evaluation index system for highway corridor engineering can effectively make a scientific evaluation of its ecological effect based on the basic information of actual projects.
