| Objective To explore the status quo and influencing factors of career planning for nurses aged 30 to 40 years old,so as to promote the understanding of this population for related departments and nursing administrators and provide the basis for the management of these nurses.Methods Based on a descriptive qualitative study,purposive sampling and the maximum variation strategy were used,the nurses worked in the level two and three hospitals in Zhejiang province were selected as the participants of the study.Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted focusing on career planning and influencing factors and field notes were written.Content analysis was used for analyzing the interview data,and the themes were extracted.The sample size was based on the criteria of saturation.Result Finally,12 participants were interviewed.After analysis,the following five thenes about nurses’ career planning were extracted:Having Career development goals;taking one step while seeing what follows;being satisfied with status quo;resigning from a front post;having the idea of resign.The main factors affecting career planning include the following:self perception,such as character,interests and strong points,professional ability,and physical condition;knowledge of nursing work,including understanding of nursing profession and the nature of nurses’ work;career development space,such as career development platform,career development path,career development bottleneck,chances and opportunities for learning and promotion;family factors,including family support and family values;hospital culture,including interpersonal relationships,leadership support and management style;career planning knowledge,including the degree of understanding of career planning knowledge and guidance of career planning.Conclusions The career planning situation of nurses from 30 to 40 years old shows many patterns,among which negative,passive and waiting attitude are more common.There are many influencing factors in career planning,including self factors,occupational factors,family factors and hospital factors. |
