Objective: To investigate the relationship between children’s adenoid hyperplasia and secretory otitis media(SOM)by retrospective analysis of children with obstructive sleep-disordered breathing(OSDB)complicated with adenoid hypertrophy. Methods: A total of 215 children with obstructive sleep-disordered breathing due to adenoidal hypertrophy(with or without tonsillectomy)and required adenoidectomy with or without tonsillectomy in our department were selected from November 2017 to September 2020.SOM and the factors such as age, adenoid size, allergic rhinitis or chronic sinusitis were statistically analyzed and related issues were discussed.Results:(1)This reseach showed that the incidence of SOM in children with adenoidal hypertrophy was higher,up to 44.7%,with the characteristics of decreasing with age(P<0.05).(2)The incidence of SOM increased with the increase of adenoid hypertrophy(P<0.05).There were differences in the incidence of monaural SOM and binaural SOM with different adenoid sizes, and the incidence of bilateral SOM increased with the increase of adenoid size(P<0.05).(3)The incidence of SOM increased in patients with adenoidal hypertrophy complicated with allergic rhinitis or chronic sinusitis, and the difference was significant(P<0.05).Conclusion: The incidence of SOM is high in children with adenoidal hypertrophy. The higher the incidence of SOM,when children with risk factors, such as the age of the child is smaller, the higher level of adenoidectomy hyperplasia,or associated with allergic rhinitis or chronic sinusitis.Early diagnosis and treatment of adenoid hypertrophy is beneficial to the prevention and treatment of secretory otitis media.
