ObjectiveTo compare the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS)and enhanced magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in indeterminate ovarian-adnexal masses. At the same time, the accuracy of diagnosis before and after combining patient history and tumor markers was compared.MethodsCEUS and MRI were performed on 46 cases of sonographically indeterminate ovarian-adnexal masses. Two independent sonographers and two radiologists reviewed the images before and after combining with clinical history or/and the serum tumor markers(including CA-125,CA-199,HE4 and AFP)respectively. The results of CEUS and MRI were compared with the pathologic findings(43 cases)or follow-up after clinical treatment(3 cases)as gold standard.ResultsThe diagnostic accuracy of CEUS in indeterminate ovarian-adnexal mass was 67.4%without combining the history and tumor markers, which was lower than 80.4%of MRI.There was significant difference(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference between them in combination with tumor markers or/and combination with the history(P>0.05).The accuracy of CEUS combined with history and tumor markers in diagnosing ovarian-adnexal masses was 91.3%,which was statistically different from CEUS without any histories(P<0.05).ConclusionCEUS combined with clinical history and tumor markers shows a potential value in differentiating between malignant and benign ovarian-adnexal masses and is comparable to that of MRI.
