Objective:To systematically summarize the medication rules of Professor Niu Caiqin in the treatment of stable stage of COPD based on Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Support System,so as to provide guidance for the traditional Chinese medicine treatment and basic research of the disease. Methods:The subjects of the study were COPD cases from the Outpatient Clinic of Professor Niu Caiqin in the Department of traditional Chinese medicine of the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College from July 2017 to October 2021,with the screening of cases that met the inclusion criteria.By using the "Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Support System" developed by Beijing DaPinZhong Alliance Technology Consulting Co.,Ltd.,statistical analysis was conducted on the general data(age, gender),medicines(frequency of use, four characters, five tastes, meridian tropism and efficacy)and prescriptions(association rules,prescription-formulating rules and core combination)of the included data.Meanwhile, the prescriptions were analyzed and clustered to find the potential core combination to form new formulas.Results:1.General data:A total of 255 cases were included in this study, including 183 males and 72 females, with an average age of 72.75±9.75 years old(ranging from 45 to 93 years old).2.Medicines:①A total of 170 traditional Chinese medicines were involved in 255 medical records, with a total use frequency of 3,360 times. The top-10 traditional Chinese medicines were:eaglewood, earthworm,Codonopsis pilosula, prepared rehmannia root, bitter almond, flos farfarae,Chinese fevervine,Astragalus membranaceus,Schisandra chinensis and licorice.② The frequencies of four characters of medicines from high to low were warm, natural, cold, hot and cool.③ The frequencies of five tastes of medicines were sweet, bitter, pungent, sour and salty.④ The top-8 frequencies of meridian tropism of medicines were the lung, spleen, stomach, liver, heart, kidney, large intestine and small intestine.⑤ The top-5 medicinal effects were:tonifying;resolving phlegm and relieving cough and asthma;regulating QI,promoting digestion;and clearing away heat.3.Prescription-formulating principle:Four new prescriptions were obtained by cluster analysis of the collected data.Conclusions:1.Professor Niu Caiqin believes that the basic pathogenesis of the stable stage of COPD includes the deficiency of five ZANG-organs as the root cause, and phlegm-stasis as the manifestation, accompanied by stagnation of QI causing retention of food;and the disease generally originates from the lung, spleen, stomach and kidney. The main syndrome types are deficiency of lung QI,deficiency of both the lung and the spleen, deficiency of both the lung and the kidney,as well as phlegm and blood stasis. The four groups of new prescriptions reflect the syndrome differentiation and treatment principles of tonifying lung QI,tonifying lung and spleen, tonifying kidney and absorbing QI,resolving phlegm and promoting blood circulation.2.Professor Niu Caiqin has rich clinical experience in the treatment of stable stage of COPD,with unique prescriptions according to the medication rules as follows:① simultaneous use of medicines that are cold and warm in nature, and the application of the child-mother reinforcing-reducing method;② coordination between dispersing and descending functions of the lung, and simultaneous treatment of Zang and Fu organs;③ treatment of both manifestation and the root cause of the disease, resolving phlegm and removing blood stasis consistently;④ combination of disease and syndrome, flexible use of classic prescriptions, and making good use of combined formula;and ⑤ treatment in accordance with three categories of etiologic factors, combined with the flexible prescription formulation.
