| Research objectives:1.To construct an intervention program for aromatherapy emotion regulation applicable to nurses after experiencing a death situation and to demonstrate the scientific validity and feasibility of the intervention program.2.To explore the effectiveness of an aromatherapy emotion regulation program in nurses after experiencing a death situation.Methods:1.Construction of aromatherapy for emotional regulation program of nurses after experiencing deathThe literature reviewed research on aromatherapy emotion regulation and related interventions, and semi-structured interviews with nurses using aromatherapy resulted in a first draft of a program on aromatherapy emotion regulation for nurses after experiencing a death situation. The expert meeting method was used to revise the content of the first draft of the protocol.Five nurses who met the inclusion criteria were selected to conduct a pre-experiment,refine the intervention protocol, and revise it to form the final draft of the intervention protocol.2.Preliminary application of aromatherapy to the emotional regulation program of nurses after experiencing a death situationConvenience sampling method was used to select 60 nurses who met the criteria for inclusion in a tertiary hospital in Suzhou. The study subjects were divided into intervention group and control group by random number table method,30 cases in intervention group and 30 cases in control group. The control group used conventional emotion regulation, and the intervention group added an aromatherapy emotion regulation program on the basis of conventional emotion regulation methods. The nurses’ data were collected at two time points before and after the intervention using the Positive and Negative Affect Scale(PANAS),Generalized Anxiety Scale(GAD-7),Depression Self-Rating Scale(SDS),Perceptual Stress Scale(CPSS)and Pittsburgh Sleepiness Scale(PSQI),and a semi-structured interview method was used to evaluate the nurses’ subjective experience after application.SPSS22.0 software was applied to enter the data into the analysis, and descriptive statistics,t-test,and rank sum test were used to compare the indicators and the results of the observation interviews between the two groups of people at two time points before and after the intervention to evaluate the application effect of the intervention program.Results:1.Constructed an intervention program for aromatherapy emotion regulation:The intervention program was finalized in three modules, namely "Aromatherapy for Beginners-Introduction to Aromatherapy","Aromatic Inhalation" and "Aromatic Massage"."Aroma Massage Aromatherapy inhalation and massage are common and effective interventions, safe and easy to implement,so they are the main interventions of the program. The program intervention length was 6 weeks in total, with 2~4 interventions per week, each intervention lasting 5~15 minutes.2.Effectiveness of the intervention program:In the control group, there were 28 effective intervention subjects and 2 cases of attrition;in the intervention group, there were 28 effective intervention subjects and 2 cases of attrition. The differences in baseline information between the two groups before the intervention were not statistically significant(P>0.05).After the intervention, the intervention group had statistically significant differences in negative mood(Z=-2.780,P=0.005),generalized anxiety(Z=-2.116,P=0.034),depression(Z=-2.832,P=0.005),perceptual stress(t=-2.889,P=0.004),and sleep status(Z=-2.889,P=0.004)compared to the control group.significance.The intervention group showed an increase in positive mood score(t=-3.179,P=0.004),a decrease in depression scale score(Z=-3.052,P=0.002),a decrease in perceived stress scale score(Z=-2.062,P=0.039),and a decrease in Pittsburgh sleep scale score(Z=3.568,P= 0.001);the intervention group had lower scores on the negative mood and generalized anxiety scales compared to pre-intervention,but they were not statistically significant. The subjective experience of the nurses in the qualitative evaluation section was good and the satisfaction level was high.Conclusion:1.An aromatherapy program for emotional regulation of nurses after experiencing death situations constructed based on literature review, qualitative studies, and expert meetings is feasible and scientifically valid.2.The aromatherapy emotion regulation program was able to improve the nurses’negative mood, anxiety, depression, perceived stress and sleep, but there was no statistically significant difference with the control group in improving positive mood.Nurses were able to take the initiative to learn inhalation aromatherapy and aromatherapy massage, with better motivation and satisfaction. |
