Substance addiction can lead to changes in brain structure and function. As a harmful addictive substance, does long-term consumption of betel quid also lead to changes in brain structure and function? If chewing betel quid for a long time can cause brain abnormalities, which parts of the brain have abnormal changes? The present research was not clear yet. Objective: To study the imaging features of frontal lobe in betel-quiddependence(BQD)Chewers by functional magnetic resonance imaging, there are two aims :1.To explore the abnormal activity of prefrontal cortex in BQD;2.To explore the relationship between BQD and idiosyncratic impulse, and the abnormal functional-connection of prefrontal cortex.Methods:1.On the basis of f MRI,combined with cue reactive task and GO / NOGO task, the brain imaging changes of BQD were obtained when they completed two different tasks.Correlation analysis was used to compare with normal controls to obtain the differences between the two groups, and to explore the abnormal changes of prefrontal lobe brain function of BQD.2.Firstly,the voxel-based morphology method was used to obtain the brain structure data of BQD,and then the regional of interest method was used to obtain the related clusters.Combined with the "Barratt" impulse scale, the physiological and psychological interactions method was used,to explore the relationship between BQD and impulse and the abnormal functional-connection of prefrontal cortex function.Results:1.Compared with the control images in the cue reactive task, when the betel related images were seen, the BQD showed increased responses in the right ventromedial PFC,left PCC,left LPL,left middle temporal gyrus and left visual cortex. In the GO / NOGO task,BQD individuals showed higher activity in right dorsolateral PFC,right PCC and bilateral LPL between No/GO and GO test compared with the normal control group;2.Compared with normal people,BQD which have more exercise and unplanned impulsivity. The motor impulse was negatively correlated with the decrease of gray matter volume of right caudate nucleus in both normal controls and BQD.Compared with the normal group, the functional connectivity of the right caudate nucleus and the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex decreased in the BQD group when watching betel quid related pictures, which was more significant in the individuals with higher scores of BQD than in the control pictures. Conclusion:BQD have abnormal prefrontal brain function, and the functional connection between striatum and prefrontal cortex also changes.
